I wish the frunk was generally easier to get to. So I noticed that the frunk opening button on the "Access tab" of the Sync console is grayed out (unavailable) if the vehicle is not powered on. Power the vehicle on, and it becomes available.

The rear lift gate, on the other hand, can be opened whether the vehicle is powered on or off.

At first I was thinking this may be some sort of technical limitation, maybe related to the way that the frunk is drawing power only if the vehicle is on. But that doesn't make sense to me either because the frunk can be opened from FordPass even when the vehicle is powered off.

This is probably not the top priority on anybody's feature list. But it just strikes me as an inconvenience and an inconsistent user experience.

I'm on 2.1.0 in case anybody is wondering. Wishful thinking that it gets fixed in 2.3.0??

at least you have the option to open the frunk from the screen.
Yeah, I know... first world problems. ?‍♂

You'll be getting yours any day now. In the next OTA update, they say!

EDIT/UPDATE -- In case it wasn't clear, I'm being somewhat sarcastic/humorous. ;)

More Vaporware for Job 1 cars. "Job 1" should be called "The customers who bought the lies".

But I’ll let @Ford Motor Company stand behind their words.
I'm very familiar with both of those sources. But please point me to where "they" say that it will come "any day now" and be in "the next OTA update". There have already been OTA updates since both of those sources were recorded, so it they really said it was coming in the next OTA update, they'd already be wrong. Good thing they didn't say that.

I'm not implying that it's not coming soon. I just think it's important to stick with the words that Ford uses so that rumors don't get started based on speculation. I think it would be more accurate to just point to the SSM where ford states that it's expected in an OTA in late December 2021.

The frunk opening from the screen isn’t a big deal because we have a physical release latch….

However, it would be nice to be able to open the REAR hatch from the dash without waiting for sync to power up. But I suppose I have a button on the back of the car for that too. I’d settle for a shortcut on the Home Screen. At least my glove box opens easily.

I disagree here. The latch is shaped so you can't pull it unless the drivers door is open. It's a small detail but that alone makes a difference to me

What’s a “frunk open button”? I’m so confused.

My original statement "You'll be getting yours any day now. In the next OTA update, they say!" was meant to be sarcastic/humorous. I guess it didn't come across in the post.

I'm well aware of how bad the track record has been on releasing OTA updates. Maybe I should have thrown in double winky eyes. ;) ;)

I have 2.1 and don’t have it either.
On a slightly more serious note, in some other frunk opening threads that I've read, allegedly multiple modules in the car need to have firmware updated for you to get this functionality to work either on the center console or the FordPass app. And as far as I've heard, the only people who have gotten it to work on early-mid Mach-Es (ones that shipped with the frunk divider) are those who have taken their vehicles into dealer service to those modules flashed by a tech.

---

Again, it appears to be a case of @Ford Motor Company discovering that firmware flashing OTA is not has easy or straight-forward as they expected.

I worked for many years in massive mission-critical enterprise software and I know that doing this can be hard and scary, especially on remote devices in the hands of the consumer. So many things can go wrong... and in the worst case scenario you risk owners' safety and lives. It's best to be cautious and rigorous, with contingency plans appropriately layered in. But at the end of the day, with the right principles and guardrails in place, it is possible!

(stepping down from soapbox now)
