So if they drive by chargers, and they are all filled with GM pickups or Rivian pickups, they'll say "nah, not going to block them in?".

I believe that they're too stupid. Think of the guy that parked in the space, occupying one of 6 parking spaces. What did that accomplish? He's not bright enough to understand that.
I think it's more of a "Hulk, smash!" reaction. Tesla = smash. Ford = don't smash. Unless you drive a Chevy, in which case, Ford = smash. Or if you drive a Ford, Chevy = smash. Either way, Tesla = smash.

They could have gotten that free press by picking another name too… imagine the chatter if they had decided to revive the Pinto..
This may sound silly, but if it was called a Pinto, the conversation with my wife about buying one would have been short ("no").

Ford was pretty genius to call it "Mustang" IMO. The people upset about it weren't buying one anyways.

I had one instance where a a$$hole went out of his way to park his diesel pickup at a EA charger that was at the back of a parking lot rather than at the front near the store. Very obvious he purposely did this. Probably paid a good bit to have his truck towed and fuel system flushed when I insinuated that I had put water in his fuel tank in retribution. (I really did not). Left him a note and two empty water bottles under his windshield wipers recommending that he have it flushed or risk damaging his injector system. I said that he was probably thirsty after having to hike clear across the parking lot from where he ICEed the charger. Boy did I get flamed on this site for that.........

Should have left a few empty sugar packets scattered around, too. Except that littering is bad.

ICEholes aren't influenced by moral imperatives, so the only way to change behavior is to allocate some cost to the activity. Want to be a jerk? Fine, be prepared to pay the consequences. I think it's a moral obligation to call out jackassery, being careful not to be a jackass yourself.

Seeing as I have a Mach e, and despise that they used the Mustang name, you are dead wrong.

When I drove a Tesla, I often saw little microaggressions from other drivers, particularly pickups, and especially diesels. Some of it was imagined, sure, fed by stories of coal rolling, tailgating, brake checking, ICEing chargers, etc.

I also saw regular-way aggressions, including coal rolling, tailgating, brake checking, ICEing chargers, etc. Sometimes a little scary, often annoying, and always unnecessary.

So, I wonder, do you get the same thing when driving a Mach-E? I mean, it's got a Ford logo on it, so that ought to make some people's heads explode and might change some others' minds. Does the Mach-E get away with being an EV because it's not an obvious EV?

Curious what other's experience has been.
Where the heck do you live that this all occurs? I've never even heard of coal rolling until I came to this group.

I've had my MME for almost a year now and have never once seen a microagression. But, where I live, EVs are a dime a dozen. I can't go to the grocery store only a mile away without seeing a dozen Teslas. But those are mostly driven by middle aged housewives and they never drive them fast or aggressively. Never. They've become the Toyota Corolla car here in SoCal.

The ICE age here in SoCal has melted. More than 25% of all EVs live here and it's no longer a big deal to see 6 or more EVs at a stop light. Your part of the country, wherever that may be, will also move forward. Eventually. Maybe. Possibly. But, who knows, some places still live in the civil war era.

In most cases, the charging spots are leased by the charging company, and the property owner has nothing to do with it.

Signage in a private lot, or on private roads, usually cannot be enforced by any authorities, except the property owner if they post signs that they'll tow violators.
Which is why I said then they can choose to enforce it or not…

My Mustang hasn't been recognized by anyone other than EV enthusiasts. My buddy with a Tesla is harassed at least once a day, usually by coal rollers (auto correct changed that to "coal toilets”).

In AZ, it's illegal to park a vehicle in an EV charging spot unless the vehicle is charging. Aholes do it anyway.

1. If you really "despised" it (verb. 1. feel contempt or a deep repugnance for.), you wouldn't have bought the car.
2. When I said nobody cared, I was speaking general terms which are generally true. I'm sure there's some masochist out there, but the name isn't hurting sales. "Pinto" sure as hell would have.

FWIW, I own an Ice Mustang (Ecoboost), and hope to join the Mach-E family soon. I am in an ecoboost forum very similar to this one as well.

Lots of ICE Mustang owners do not like the Mach-E, and do not consider it to be a Mustang. This is similar to the treatment ecoboost owners get from ICE GT owners (dismissive comments, revved engines at traffic lights, etc.). They take a narrow mind towards Mustang, and can't get past a Mustang being an EV SUV with GT350 performance.

Not me - can't wait till they reopen ordering for the CR1!
Just point out to them that the Mustang was originally born from leftover parts in the Ford Falcon parts bin and an attractive design. Ask them how they like their “Ford Falcon derivatives” ?

I live in Floriduh and drove a Prius before my MME and got coal rolled about once a month. None yet in the MME but I think it looks like just another new SUV to most people. I've had a couple regular cars and trucks drive very aggressively/erratically by me recently but I have no idea if it was because it's an EV.

I don’t think they were wrong about the conversation they thought they’d have with their wife?
I totally understand and empathize with your feeling about the Mustang Mach E name. I suspect that Ford Marketing carefully considered alternatives, such as E-Edsel, Fiesta -E, E-Tempo, Galax-E, and others, then came to the conclusion that Mustang Mach E had the least negative consumer perception ?
Who knows, maybe LTD Landau-E would have won, the ASOK could be making after market vinyl Coach Roofs for our cars ???

Exactly. I said this same thing in the Car and Driver article comments about it way back. I got a bunch of thumbs down responses but smart people who understand marketing know the real story. It also helps ensure the Mustang coupe stays viable going forward because that’s not a given these days. Look at the Camaro - getting cancelled again just over a decade after coming back from being cancelled.

To the original topic, around where I live, there are lots of soccer moms who have the “performance” versions of the BMW and Audi SUVs (X5, Q5 & Q7). These soccer moms routinely believe that they are entitled to cut you off at controlled lights so they can make left turns, or they’ll try to race you at traffic lights. I had one Soccer mom in the right lane at a light who decided she HAD to make a left turn when the light changed. She say there doing the “creeping game” while the light was red. I, of course, was going straight. The amusing thing is that, when I made it to the next light on the road and stopped (the light was red), she was still completing her “cut people off because SHE wanted to go left” maneuver. I also had some guy in a very old Jetta (mid-2000s) try to pull something similar. He failed spectacularly.
