I don’t think they were wrong about the conversation they thought they’d have with their wife?
I totally understand and empathize with your feeling about the Mustang Mach E name. I suspect that Ford Marketing carefully considered alternatives, such as E-Edsel, Fiesta -E, E-Tempo, Galax-E, and others, then came to the conclusion that Mustang Mach E had the least negative consumer perception ?
Who knows, maybe LTD Landau-E would have won, the ASOK could be making after market vinyl Coach Roofs for our cars ???
I was referring to the last sentence of his comment that the people upset by the name weren’t going to buy one anyway.

1. If you really "despised" it (verb. 1. feel contempt or a deep repugnance for.), you wouldn't have bought the car.
2. When I said nobody cared, I was speaking general terms which are generally true. I'm sure there's some masochist out there, but the name isn't hurting sales. "Pinto" sure as hell would have.
1. WRONG. I am intelligent enough to separate the car, and all the great things about it, from the name.
2. Why. There is no chance of someone sticking a rag in the gas cap and causing their ev to explode… they could havecashed in on that safety factor. And, people would still be talking about it, which is the biggest reason all you “Ford said my station wagon is a Mustang, so it’s a Mustang” use for the naming being such genius.

I’ve argued this before, but, it’s a Mustang if Ford says it is. It drives more like a Stang than an SUV, that’s for certain, no regular ass SUVs have a neutral handling balance that allows some corner exit oversteer. Our 4X does. And I go back with a few Mustangs, some pretty highly modded. Here are just a few of them:

My 87 was same color as the Blue and Grey except I didn't put SVT rims on mine! My 18 GT Perf was an absolute hoot. Line lock, 10 speed auto, three mode exhaust notes, I had to sell it as I was racing my 18 year old kids friends! Just absolutely ridiculous!

I think the Mach E fits the Mustang ethos- bring powerful fun to drive cars to the masses. Sell more horsepower than you need. Lead the way with something every other car company is going to have to have in their product mix.

And it does drive like a Mustang, except that it will turn, and it doesn't do spontaneous donuts if there's even a chance of there being a spot of rain in the next three days.

Sounds like the worst EV-aggression you see in a Mach E is the evil eye from Mustang "purists"

Ok. Enjoy your Mustang.

Mustang owners really do get mad at us for the name like we picked it??

It could have been named Explorer sport EV, Broncosport EV, or just Mach E in general and we still would have bought it. (Its not the name we bought it for but the looks, range, and specs etc)
More annoyed at Ford than the MME owners. If it was named anything but Mustang, they would like it. Again, if it doesn't have an ICE and 2 doors, they feel it is not a Mustang. Not my view.

Now that I think about it, do Bronco owners treat Bronco Sport owners the way Mustang owners treat Mustang Mach E owners?

We’ve had ours for a year and I can’t remember any. Unfortunately, we did experience some when we had our Bolt. I think it was the combination of it being an EV and being a smaller car.

When I drove a Tesla, I often saw little microaggressions from other drivers, particularly pickups, and especially diesels. Some of it was imagined, sure, fed by stories of coal rolling, tailgating, brake checking, ICEing chargers, etc.

I also saw regular-way aggressions, including coal rolling, tailgating, brake checking, ICEing chargers, etc. Sometimes a little scary, often annoying, and always unnecessary.

So, I wonder, do you get the same thing when driving a Mach-E? I mean, it's got a Ford logo on it, so that ought to make some people's heads explode and might change some others' minds. Does the Mach-E get away with being an EV because it's not an obvious EV?

Curious what other's experience has been.

Actually it only has one small ford logo on the top of the windshield thats not really noticeable. The Mustang logos you cant miss though.

That's an interesting point. Ford could have sold just as many, maybe more, with a Ford brand. But with the Mustang brand they put a stake in the ground and claimed a big chunk of the market. Not only is it good looking, it's a really good car. Even more, it's a really good EV. But on top of all that, it's a Mustang (grunt). Maybe they'll goad Chevy into doing an electric Camaro. That would be fun, and would go a really long way to cementing EVs in the mainstream.
