I have a signed order from the dealer in December that shows pricing before the 1st in-model-year price increase. If I didn’t have one, id go the the dealer soon to get one in writing.

Ugh. My dealer has been above board with me near as I can tell from the get-go.

That said, the phrase "This is not an invoice" at the bottom of the printout I got from them 3/18 (after the Park Assist Prep Kit change) does make me a smidge nervous.

So I ordered it this week and they are telling me the order book is already closed - can they send me an order sheet or not until it is submitted to Ford??
The order banks haven't closed yet so you should call them and ask what's up. And if they're difficult, find a different dealer.

Trend seems to be:
1. New EV comes out
2. Good press, not enough inventory
3. Price increase
4. More of #2
5. End of 7500$ rebate approaches, manufacturer raises prices again to capture the tail end of rebate-eligible purchases
6. (Looking to Tesla here) Rebate eligibility ends, but prices stay high

TLDR; If a new EV hits the market, buy it asap. If it’s good, the price will only go up over time, until we finally return to pre-pandemic inventory availability.

I ordered a 2022 Premium in Oct. last year (signed contract) and was told this week it's been built and is waiting for a lift to get out East. I'm actually on the fence right now about keeping it for various reasons - like I don't actually need another car. I locked in the MY21 price and avoided the $2000 increase and now with another $3k plus 50 basis point increase on the finance rates (also likely to only be going one way) I think I'd be an idiot to let it go.

Yes there are very long threads discussing price protection elsewhere on the forum. Seems like it's not an issue with 95% of dealers...and if your dealer already told you this, you should be good. THAT SAID...it doesn't hurt to have them email you a sheet that details your order and the current price.
Thanks. Sorry I didn't do a little more digging for older posts.

They bragged about a month ago about reducing production cost + they've cut features so uh, that ain't it.
They cut features due to unavailability of chips. In the case of park assist they cut the price of the vehicle. You can search the web to see that commodities, especially rare earth, are going up drastically. Also you can see that the price of the battery expansion option is about half of the total increase. The only reason there are some dealers charging ADM is due to scarcity due to high demand. I do not believe Ford is foolish enough to start jacking prices because they can’t get enough cars built! Also they are providing price protection to keep both the consumer and dealer whole. Ford may not be the best at communicating but I do not believe there is anything going on here other than inflationary pressures.

Okay, innocent question here, but what does "signed contract" entail. Did you order online?

One thing that is interesting is that the order does say Job #2 order on it

So some have indicated the invoice is locked in when the car is built-- others have said it isn't locked in until the car transits through Kansas City. Which is it? For those of us who already have window stickers but our cars are hanging out waiting to get shipped-- are we going to be impacted by this and need to worry about the price protection process going smoothly?

This is true. But, as someone that had tracked Model Y pricing for a long time (until they f'd me over by never making my configuration and keeping my deposit for 2 years), they were increasing it $500 or $1000 consistently every 2 weeks for a good amount of time. At least in this situation, it's been less than quarterly, and doesn't lead to as many "But last week, I ...." stories (if order banks are closing). Then again, that "every 2 weeks" strategy probably reflected positively for order urgency (and ultimately their investors).

no. They did price increase last time and my car was still being built. Whatever you locked in when ordering Is your price. Lot is speculation on it but that’s my experience especially if you are way past just ordering.
