Super important nuance that seems to lack an obvious answer.
What is the converted to an order/acceptance by dealer process? Never went thru it but to me that is the confirmation your order is accepted and should include pricing. I also thought you had to get a picture ID to the dealer as part of the process but perhaps not. I know I did when ordered in person.

I came across this screen shot in another forum. It’s a bit fuzzy but has some good info

It’s the online ordering process for the vehicle. Buyer specifies the build, puts down a deposit ($1k in my situation), choose a dealer, and then dealer accepts the order. Past that point, buyer has a local dealer PoC and the order can be scheduled, built, shipped, and delivered. However, Ford’s internal documentation has the price creeping up continuously. Local dealer couldn’t pull original price easily without talking to their Ford rep. I imagine with this scheduled price increase it will show on orders of people who ordered well before now. Take pictures and videos of whatever you can - it’s a hassle to get your original agreed price at least if you ordered online.

You are SPOT ON! When I saw the YouTube video explaining PP and that "signed and dated" order sheet, I asked my dealer and they started riffing; I pressed them, and they told me "the guy that handled that is no longer with Ford"; they eventually gave an order sheet to me, unsigned and undated, after the last price increase, so I will lay my hopes on that Ford memo that explains price protection. They should honor price protection, sell the car to me, the person that placed that original order and 45 days after selling that car to me, they will be refunded the price increase from Ford; the fact that they try, as hard as they might to double dip, ADM and PP. I'm comforted by the fact that my dealer is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Automotive Group and after giving my dealer the opportunity to do the right thing (BEFORE DELIVERY DATE), I'll get their corporate oversee-er to weigh in.

And I feel like if they’re only going to PP the actual signed at dealership orders, why let people use Fords online order system?! I would have gladly gone to my dealer to sign something, but I trusted in Ford’s system. Really seems like a horrible way to take advantage of people using their online ordering system if that turns out to be the case.

Good point, I did not address this. The obtaining a signed and dated order sheet, is SO pre online and outdated. I have screen shots of my online order from Ford's online ordering site, so, that's an east one to smack down; that said, I'll feign whataboutism when the guy that was to present me with a signed and dated order sheet, because he got fired! No matter, I have screen shots from the ordering system.

On top of not just taking so long to deliver orders but removing features? If we're not price protected from that I'm gonna go get an ID.4 or EV6 off the lot instead.

It's beyond absurd that Ford thinks they can ship cars with less but add huge markups like that AND brag about how they increased the margin by reducing production cost. These things contradict.

Just ask them for a copy or go by and get it. Also the price is the same everywhere unless ADM is involved so it is not a secret. Be aware any increases will be added to the window sticker so do not freak out at that. Just get a copy of your order if worried about it and that will be the price protected cost to you. The dealer is made whole too so no loser in this process.

Not disputing any of this, but this does require the dealership to acknowledge the process you outline here. My dealership has told me that there is no price protection on the orders made prior to early December. I suspect that my dealership will deny price protection on this change too.

I’m not sure what to do. I suspect my car will arrive, they will show me a price that is $7,000 over my original price, and then tack on another $1,500 in dealership add ons (they have already promised these will be added to the car). I should have just bought a car with a markup last year.

For those of you with price increase anxiety, I'd advise you to go ahead and email your dealer (so it's in writing) and discuss your worries. If they say they will honor price protection, great! If not, at least you know and can move forward accordingly.

Also, even if they agree over email to honor your price, make sure to print the emails and bring them with you on purchase day. My dealer conveniently forgot and tried to overcharge me by $1,000.

^^ I think Occam's Razor favors this explanation.^^

In my area, perusing dealer inventory on Ford.com right now, there are a few CR-1s where, if you click on the window sticker there's no price, and sideways over the sticker is red lettering that says: "VEHICLE NOT FOR SALE DO NOT SHIP." That puzzled me until I heard about this price increase. I'm guessing they're holding those dealer orders back so they can be sold at the new price, and Ford won't go broke reimbursing dealers for price protection that'll go out the window with ADM anyway.

If you snooze you lose. I ordered my Premium AWD ER in Feb. ‘21 and it was delivered 08/31/21. It’s amazing how much more the same trim sells for now. After 8 month use it’s probably worth more then MSRP.

Always a good idea to get anything a dealer promises in writing. While it doesn't necessarily carry the weight of a contract, it definitely gives the consumer a whole lot of ammunition.

If you have multiple orders with multiple dealers, I'd get it in writing from all of them. Even if the dealership is run by idiots who claim you aren't protected, you can always pit the dealers against one another.

I'd even push back if you get a vague statement like, "I haven't heard anything about price increases, but if it is like the last increase you should be protected." That's smarmy sales rep language (attorneys are equally vague and suggestive with their word choice) and is not an acceptable response. Both my dealers tried to brush off the question, so I pointed them to my source and advised them it was their job to find out or I would nuke my orders because I wasn't going to be suckered in to last minute shenanigans with pricing. I had firm answers by the end of the business day.

I think Tesla Model Y LR went from like $51K to $64K in a year. Rivian increased their prices by 20% a few weeks ago.
Yup. The Model Y LR AWD we took delivery of on 3/31/21 is now $10k more.
