So some have indicated the invoice is locked in when the car is built-- others have said it isn't locked in until the car transits through Kansas City. Which is it? For those of us who already have window stickers but our cars are hanging out waiting to get shipped-- are we going to be impacted by this and need to worry about the price protection process going smoothly?
Smoothly is subjective to the individual dealer you use. Some honor no problems, some play games.

You were locked in when they accepted the order (the Kansas City thing applies to dealers). I would contact them now to get the ball rolling on your price and let them be honorable and be prepared for what you might need to do.

I ordered in October and got it in March, thus getting it at the pre Dec price increase. My dealer was good, so no issues all the way around. Make sure yours is the same.

no. They did price increase last time and my car was still being built. Whatever you locked in when ordering Is your price. Lot is speculation on it but that’s my experience especially if you are way past just ordering.
It looks like you ordered a MY 21-- which would not have been impacted by the MY 22 price increase in December in any case.

Thanks, as a January orderer who is lucky enough to already have a built car I thought I would get away without having to deal with any of the price protection process. Evidently not!

I didn't see any reports of anyone getting price increase after they had their order in already. Although I don't expect people to stress less about it unless ford changed something.

Be careful what you wish for! According to Consumer Reports testing, the Jaguar I-Pace is not only more expensive but rated far below the MME. Tesla Model Y rating thrown in for comparison.

I trust a 2year old judgement over consumer reports, it's pure garbage.

There are definitely reports in the build week threads of shady dealers refusing price protection or at least making the process quite difficult whether through ignorance or malice. I'm not too worried about my large, high-volume dealership playing games as they've sold plenty of Mach-E's, but was looking forward to one less thing to 'deal with' during the purchasing process.

Custom orders seem to have a set stone procedure about price protection.

I think some of us are worried about dealer ordered. I put my name on a dealer ordered Select that supposed to be here in February and it got moved to mid March and then mid April. The dealer told me the price should not change. Ordertrack app shows "Rail" "Picked" until this morning . The status changed to "Rail" "Delivered" late morning. The destination for rail is KC. Strangely, this happened right after I talked to Ford and I was told to talk to the dealer. I think it is just a coincidence. KC it is. Hopefully, my invoice is set.

By all means you're free to ignore the independent testing and professional evaluation data, and just go with your gut feeling about cars! :)

Dealer is price protected with ford. Dealer just fills out sold car to original purchaser and the get the lower invoice with no loss to buyer or dealer.

Absolutely wrong. Don't accept this. Dealer gets difference from Ford. You pay less.

Not disputing any of this, but this does require the dealership to acknowledge the process you outline here. My dealership has told me that there is no price protection on the orders made prior to early December. I suspect that my dealership will deny price protection on this change too.

I’m not sure what to do. I suspect my car will arrive, they will show me a price that is $7,000 over my original price, and then tack on another $1,500 in dealership add ons (they have already promised these will be added to the car). I should have just bought a car with a markup last year.

They cut features due to unavailability of chips. In the case of park assist they cut the price of the vehicle.
Yeah for park assist, but they entirely removed the foot activation sensor and double pane glass, the latter certainly wasn't for chips.

I do not believe there is anything going on here other than inflationary pressures.

This was after they announced price increase for 22 MY, this will be the third such substantial increase despite cutting costs and features? I do not buy the claim that this is "necessary" this is just trying to profit off of scarcity while they can. Not that I think they did that intentionally, building more would have been better than increasing price on fewer vehicles if they could.

Okay, innocent question here, but what does "signed contract" entail. Did you order online?
No, at the time I went into the dealership, took a test drive, sat with a sales guy, put $1000 down and then sat with the Finance guy to finances the purchase - the full 2 hr. car buying experience. At the end of it we had the usual signed paperwork / contract in place.
