The key thing for the "not a Mustang" crowd that they don't realize

And I'm not sure all the Mach-E orderers bought it because it is an EV Mustang who would have otherwise bought a regular one if the Mach-E wasn't available.

I'm not a huge Mustang fan, but I love the Mustang Mach-E. My 14 yo likes the traditional one and I'll buy her that when she gets her license.
Confession time, I actually don’t like the Mustang. At least not since MY 1966 anyway. Sure the Shelby GT500 is fast and a head turner, but it’s not my car at all. Sure there are styling elements I like about the Mustang but not enough to buy one — ever. I also don’t like the Camaro either. So at least I’m consistent.

So at least for me the MME isn’t cannibalizing Mustang sales. If it didn’t exist I’d not be buying the Mustang or any other Ford, I’d be replacing my Tacoma with another Tacoma probably. Or a Colorado. Or keeping the one I have. It runs fine.

I didn't say new mustang. It'll be used, but she wants white with stripes. I anticipate her getting a merit scholarship, so that will be easier on my pockets.
Still, are you looking to adopt? I promise to clean my room and take out the trash!

I've always loved the Mustang from afar. Never enough to say I would want to buy one unless I had the cash for just a "fun" car to drive on weekends - and I don't. I would have bought this full BEV vehicle even if it was just the electric Escape - as I love my Escape.

The fact that they made it a Mustang? Genius, and gives me icing on the cake of a full BEV, and the nameplate I always wanted but could never justify.

I didn't like being so low to the ground and not being able to see around the traffic. I didn't find the seats as comfortable.
My wife feels the same way.

Confession time, I actually don’t like the Mustang.
That's OK, smaller cars are not for everyone. I don't really like SUV's, so I'm hoping the MME is more of a crossover than a true SUV.

A couple of years ago we rented a Mustang Convertible on one of our baseball park trips (whew finished them all before covid hit!).

I didn't mind getting in/out etc. What I found annoying about it was how small the side windows were and how high up on your shoulder the windowsill was--I'm sure its plenty safe having all that metal next to you but it gave me the feeling of sitting way down in a bathtub. Guess I'm too used to SUV's and pickups.

So the MachE just quadrupled the iconic Mustang sales reported? I would consider that an important step in "saving the brand".
No, the 13k number is for just the 3rd quarter only. And US only.

As noted in a following post, Mustang sales in the US for the whole year were 72k. Mach-E sales in the US are expected to be about 15-20k. (Although they'd probably be a bit higher if it weren't for the limited supply of batteries.)

From a purists' perspective It isn't "truly" a Mustang because it isn't a coupe, but it is "Mustang inspired". If it is peppy, agile, and fun to drive, then it can live up to the Mustang heritage and earn the name and expand the definition of a "true" mustang. If it drives like an ordinary SUV then it will just be a pretender.
