Brand new mach-e with dead touchscreen

Hi,

Just picked up my brand new mach-e yesterday after a six month wait. So happy to have it and grateful for an amazing dealer experience.

The day I got it, the sync screen went dead. The screen was totally black although if you did touch it all of the sudden the radio changed or ac started to blast. But a totally blind experience. It suddenly started working again, only to go dead again today. Dealership is troubleshooting now.

Have others experienced this? @Ford Motor Company have any ideas?

So bummed it happened on day 1!

Try a Sync reset (dealership probably will).

I have it and continue to have it happen. Upon startup it's a responsive black screen and throws a main display error each time, code 100a or something.

A soft reset will help bring the screen back- hold volume down and press the right arrow key for 5+seconds.

Dealer has been working on my vehicle and field service has asked to check the APIM connection, although my service team believes it's a software issue.

I find it happens during the Android auto handshake....almost like something gets lost to push the screen to on when I enter my vehicle.

Good to know about reset.

It almost seems like the car decides to act up as I’m walking towards it. When I get in either the lights/moving images come up on both screens, or the big screen stays blank. It’s before I even start up the car.

Hopefully they can resolve quickly and that the reset could be an interim fix.

Yep, same thing - i usually know when the car doesnt recognize me until im right next to it. Congrats on getting the vehicle and good luck the rest of the way.

They may be replacing my screen (ongoing for a couple months now with the issue). I'll shoot you a message to whatever gets resolved.

I’ve been having the same issue. Dealer has ordered a Sync module which is on back order. Soft reset has become a way of life.

Ok good to know. Did they give you an ETA on the sync module order? I am picking it back up but they suspect I might still have problems which will require them to spend more time on the car with the hotline.

Sounds like the reset routine is better than sitting and waiting for a car to be built and shipped. But still nuts to have this happen on day 1

Got it back. Reset works great. But I noticed the screen stayed on CarPlay even after I left the car (turned off) and locked the doors. Has that ever happened? Nervous it will drain the 12v…

This issue makes me INSANE!!!! I’ve called Ford directly 3 times about it - once on the side of the road in 90 degree weather because of course you can’t operate AC.
What i recently discovered on my own…after another issue (see my thread about screaming, static noise ?)….is that I now believe it’s Apple CarPlay interference. I know - against all beliefs but when I disconnected it it stopped. NOT what I want to do but either Apple or Ford needs to fix it.

Yes the climate control might be the worst part. I once accidentally turned the heat on when tapping at the blank screen. Have you tried the reset? It is pretty reliable until it’s fixed.

Car is currently at dealership to replace the module and/or screen components. Thought I’d have it back same days but they needed more time. Because it happened prior to me driving the lot I think ford expedited shipping the parts. I’ll let you all know what happens.

oh…Ford’s tech response during one call was to turn everything off, to open the door, lock the door, close the door, wait exactly two minutes, start the car, turn on the screen…seriously….yes it worked. ONCE

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. You may want to try not connecting CarPlay or keeping your iPhone off completely a few times and see what happens. I do think that’s the issue but i can’t function like that like i’m sure most people can’t. My sister has this car and has an Android and never had this problem. Weirdly, I seem to be having better luck with the ā€œhold the Vol down, Right select buttonā€ for 10 seconds method to get the screen to reset but that is not how i want to drive constantly. I also noticed if i turn off my car and make a quick stop and get back in and restart it’s more likely to give me the black screen of death. Not offering solutions but maybe if we all give ideas to Ford Tech they’ll do something about this. I’ve seen posts going back to Aug ā€˜21 on it.
