Fascinating and gigantic news.

"......to build five new electric vehicle models and the batteries that will power them."
Well when the premier of the province has a last name of Ford, it kinda sell itself. ☺

thanks for the explanation. makes sense.... So now the question is how soon do they leave the plant??? I assume the 8,000 means that they have arrived in Mexico???
I dunno if all 3 million cells (roughly 8000 battery packs worth) arrive at the same time or not. Wouldn't surprise me if they come in a few different shipments spread out (just-in-time shipping), but I really have no idea. Since it takes some time to assemble the packs first, it's possible most are already there for that batch.

Oh I fully expect the divider to be included. I don't "not want" the divider. It's a nice extra and Ford is smart to show it. And it doesn't conflict with using the space for a cooler too (assuming it's removable). The flexibility is great.

Making it unremovable would be a whole different matter though.
So far the photo's here, the other big forum, and online all show it attached with screws. That's what I'm hoping for as I would like the ability to remove it from time to time.

For the Mach e, it's been my understating they are only getting cells from Europe, but building the batteries out of the hundreds of cells (288 or 376 depending on SR or ER) (putting them in a battery pack/frame, all the wiring, etc). That said, I've heard both stories, so it might be nice to get confirmation from someone at the plant... not that it makes much difference if they come preassembled or not.

It make sense for Ford to produce the cell too at some point, but their is a higher risk of investing in the wrong technology as it's rapidly changing.
No to Ford making cells.

Yes to Ford building the battery pack assembly that houses them, cools them, and manages them. (And then installing the batteries when the pack is ready.)

I've wondered if those pre-production cars were actually made after the divider was added, or if they're earlier ones (before the dividers), and they were just slapped in with screws to show them off?

Meaning, the production units may actually have a better snap-in system of some kind.

I don't know, it's just my guess. A lot of the cars being displayed are the earlier PPs.

Ripping it out forcibly or by use of a saw is a no starter. Removing screws? Most all of us can do that I think. Test drive item: Check the Frunk. Well for those who get a test drive in an FCTP before their own cars arrive anyway.

Mr. Mexico is VERY popular here. Screw the wall....this guy is loved by all of us. I am confused as I thought the batteries were all coming from a plant in Europe???

Also on the Canadian article does this mean that Ford is indeed going into the battery building business???
I believe the Mach E batteries are assembled in Cuatilan. The pouches or cells or whatever they are called come from S Korea and soon some other places apparently but the battery packs themselves appear to be assembled at the plant in Mexico.

So, perhaps a similar process is planned for Canada? Cells or pouches from a vendor and then the batteries are assembled at the plant where they are needed.

EDIT: Ignore me. I just read all the other posts where this was covered already. Move along people......nothing to see here....

Okay gurus @trutolife27 and @ChasingCoral do I keep ignoring my dealer when they call and tell me my 96xx reservation Premium will start down the line in December and be available by February?

Built in December sounds reasonable (although could easily be a month either side of that). 2 months for delivery sounds excessive though. We've been hearing more like ~3 weeks. Maybe even just 2 for a Texas delivery.

That part is confusing as you point out - but it could be that Ford is implying assembly of batteries than a full vertical integration as that would be a big deal shift from their previous decisions - but perhaps Ford is hedging and may be really starting a self sufficient battery production in Canada just for those vehicles but doubtful.
