Discovered this zombie thread because I just had it happen to me for the first time yesterday. Dec 2021 car, took delivery Jan 2022. 5500 miles on the odometer so far. Always use 1PD.

Battery at ~90%, backed out of my garage, shifted to D (not sure if I shifted before full stop), drove downhill down my driveway and lifted off, suddenly realized car was not slowing down and had to jump on the brake. Minor panic as I've gotten so used to 1PD in this car. Late to picking up my kid at the airport so just kept driving for 30 minutes with no 1PD. Noted that the Mach E doesn't decelerate much at all in its "ICE" braking mode.

Parked at the airport, restarted for the drive home and 1PD has been fine since. Reading previous posts, seems like failure while coasting downhill is a recurring theme? Which is really not where you want it to fail if you are counting on it to slow you down. Can easily see this leading to an accident if you're using 1PD to slow down to an intersection on a downhill slope (or any intersection for that matter). Now I'm going to be paranoid for a while, as I don't know if I can trust 1PD any more.

I got that once when the car skipped coming off a speed bump. Turned off the car and turned it back on then it was fine. I had to change to way I drive over speed bumps in my neighborhood.

Just had it happen to me yesterday. Got the 1 pedal fault and also 'blind spot detection' fault. Message said 'the side obstacle detection control module found a communication problem'

Mine is Prem AWD, built 4/2021 and I've been lucky to have had no problems with it at all. Not sure if related, but I did get Powerup 2.72 installed yesterday morning. Hasn't happened since I restarted the car several times, but I will take it for Service just to play it safe.

My car (built Jan. 2021) used to do this fairly repeatably after I parked backed up a fairly steep driveway. It hasn’t happened in a long time - I attributed the correction to a software update. You should have you VIN checked for available updates.

I just got this error and it cleared itself after a restart... No trace of in Ford App too...

Is it worthwhile taking this for service, if it is cleared?

Just got an error message on the instrument screen: "1 Pedal Drive Fault Press brake pedal to reduce speed"

Restarted the car, the message went away.

The car is set to use 1 pedal driving. When the message was on the screen, the 1 pedal driving was clearly not working.

Anyone seen this?

We had our car 4 days... drove 250 miles... using 1PD coming downhill in Sequoia national park... the system failed... every warning light came on and told us to stop safely immediately... someone told us "sparks or flames" were coming out of the rear tire and the noise was horrendous... all electronics failed and once in park could not shift of park to have it towed.
it's been 2.5 weeks and still no idea if/ when the necessary computer part will be available. Ford has been pretty non responsive... VERY frustrating. Broke my rule about never buying 1st model of any car. Repair parts do not exist. We reserved Dec 2019... ordered July 2020 and received match 31, 2021
i have always used one peddle and it has never failed me. i love it

I too have had this happen a couple of times, both times when decelerating and hiting a bump of some sort. Both times it went away under restart. I suspect it is some sort of flaw in the algorithm that can't handle verticle bumps while generating. It will be something I'll let the dealer know when it goes in for service.

I know this is a zombie thread but I figured I'd ask...when people say the issue cleared itself, is it the message to take in for service that cleared or just the 1PD issue cleared? This just happened to me and the little yellow wrench continues to tell me to take it in for service each time I turn on the car. After the first time I turned the car off and back on, everything seems to be back to normal except the wrench telling me to take it for service. I don't want to bother with that if it was just a temporary glitch thats worked itself out.

Thanks for any info.

Are you sure it's the same issue. This thread is from 1.5 years ago, with OTA this issue would surely be fixed. Just guessing though.

I think the fault was the same (1FD fault) but my answer was actually answered the next time I went to the car. The "check engine" light was off and everything is fine. I guess it cleared itself and I'm glad since I can cancel the service appt. :) Now this thread can die for another year or so....

No. This thread is going to live a little longer.

Just had 1PD leave me while I was coasting down a slight hill to a red light. I applied brakes and started driving as if it were an ICE vehicle.

[Be prepared for the transition to this mode with braking/accelerating/coasting because it is very different if you've been predominantly using 1PD mode.]

No extraordinary circumstances were present when this happened. When I did restart the car, 1PD was engaged, yellow service light was gone, and so far--the car has behaved fine.

I did notice a message in the Ford app that said "Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power." The vehicle is current on software updates.
So what's this about, Ford?

My mom got this issue on her 21 Mach-E a couple of months ago - local dealership told her they needed to complete a couple of recalls and software updates and that should fix it.

She got it again yesterday, just driving down the road (not switching between D and R like some others have seen).

It's really shitty that this is apparently so common - but dealerships are incapable of fixing it. It makes the car behave/brake differently than you're used to and could easily be considered unsafe. She certainly get scared when the message pops up.

Say what you want about Tesla but at least the service centers only work on Teslas, so the technicians are familiar with the cars/issues/parts. I get the impression many Ford dealerships have no idea how to work on the Ford EVs.

Lots of people in here with the issue. Has anybody gotten it fully fixed and not gotten the error again for several months? Car software is up to date.
