EDIT: Software updates are now available at your dealer, and will also come out via OTA soon.

It's finally here! This is the recall for the HVBJB issues people have been having.

You will get a letter in the mail about the recall after July 5th.

Bulletin to dealers below:
------------------------
Ford Mustang Mach-E Safety Recall 22S41 - 2021-2022 Mach E - HVBJB Recall [high voltage battery main contactors may overheat] 22S41

----------------------------

What we do think we know. NOTE THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL FORD STATEMENTS THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION BASED ON INFORMATION I HAVE GATHERED ON THIS FORUM!

What is the HVBJB?
HVBJB is the assembly that has contactors, fuses, and some other electrical components at the front inside of the battery pack. This connects the DCFC to the HVB as well as the rest of the car when it is turned on.

What is the problem?
The HVBJB contactors can get in a stuck open or stuck closed state. From reading failures on the forum I have gathered that MOST failures are the + contactor that powers the whole car welding closed due to excessive heat. If this happens the car will not turn off while driving but will not restart.

Why is this a safety recall?
If the contactor gets stuck open while driving the car will lose its propulsion and 12v battery charging. This could be dangerous. If it gets stuck closed it is unlikely to cause an unsafe condition, but if both the + and - become stuck closed then the battery cannot be isolated which can be dangerous. Therefore the vehicle will not restart if one is stuck closed.

Am I a part of the recall?
Yes, if your vehicle was built before May 24, 2022. Check your VIN on Ford ETIS, with Ford Chat, with your dealer, or wait for the recall letter.

What is the fix?
A software update has been released that will monitor the contactor temperature and reduce power if overheating is detected.

What should I do now?
Absolutely nothing. Continue driving your car. The only advice I can give is especially if you have a GT/GT Performance model try to avoid a lot of high speed driving (90MPH+) and try to do your best to be easy on the throttle. Back to back full throttle applications can generate a lot of heat in the battery components including the HVBJB and heat seems to be the largest cause of this failure. Again this is MY OPINION, not any facts given to us from Ford.

Also guys I wouldn't hold your breath on this removing the 5 second power limit for the GT. I believe there are other limitations of the battery pack causing that.

Anyone with an affected VIN that hasn't taken delivery of their car yet...I'm sorry but if it was built after may 24th you won't be able to until at least Q3.

The build dates say May 27, 2020 through May 24, 2022 ... Do you mean if it was built before may 24th?

I know... Thats exactly what they are saying. They don't say what trims it applies to and if all vehicles need parts, software, or what...but more info to come. This is super preliminary, so just know Ford has acknowledged the problem and will give more info when they have it.

So if we are in the production range we are for sure part of this? Or just specific VINs in those dates? We are pretty much in the dark until a fix and letter comes out huh?

What do you mean here? Mine was built... May 25th (lol)
May 25, 2022? Then you got the new part lol. If its may 25, 2021 you're possibly part of the recall its unknown yet.

So it seems to imply at the top there will be a software update or the software update is what caused the problem?

Yep. But your original message said those built after May 24th would have to wait. Did you mean before?

This is my EDUCATED GUESS, not any factual info.

A software update will come to all vehicles to help reduce the issue. Some vehicles will get replacement parts. This is my GUESS. It is possible all vehicles get replacement parts... we'll have to wait and see. There's a ton of unknown so its a wait and see game now.

It does say: Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module (SOBDMC) and Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) Software Update

Hopefully they are optimistic a software update can solve the problem.
I do not believe a software update will not solve the problem for GTs, but it may for lesser trims. This is my best guess, not any real facts.
