One of the first wireless chargers I used, from Palm, included magnets to align it. It's actually a really nice feature that I'm glad to see Apple bring BACK (as much as they'd like you to think they've "invented" it).

I highly doubt our cars will have mag safe built in, but looking at Apple’s presentation it seems like all phones that include it will be backward Qi compatible. Call me crazy, but I come from a time when magnets were supposed to be kept as far away from your tech as possible.
MagSafe has nothing to do with the charging standard. The phones will continue to use Qi, same as always. The nice thing about MagSafe is that it will align the phone with the coils on the charger, ensuring the phone is at the “sweet spot” for maximum power transfer. The additional benefit is that it will hold the phone or accessories in place.

I believe Ford has Alexa support, no? Not sure if specifics on the Mach-E have been announced, but if it does, you could (with some tech know-how) integrate this into HomeKit via something like HomeAssistant.
I certainly hope any Alexa stuff can be disabled. I’ve managed to keep Alexa out of my home, and minimize google’s intrusion so far (replaced my nest after G bought them).

Looks like there is a lip around the charging pad, so I don't think the phone will slide around.

That photo worries me. I want to preorder the Pro Max. I don't know which size is pictured here, but it looks like a very snug fit with a case on...

Alexa is an add on - you don't have to enable it. I downloaded and tried it and found it to be a battery hog so I got rid of it. I use Alexa devices right now, but I also have a regular HomePod. I would like to get rid of my Alexa devices and replace them with HomePod minis because I too do not like nor trust Amazon or Google anymore. I trust Apple much more. I also got rid of my Nest and have an Ecobee. - the one BEFORE they integrated Alexa. I also have a Ring Camera system on my house for security, and was unhappy when Amazon bought them - BUT I only use it on the OUTSIDE. I'll be damned if I buy one of those interior Ring drones they are now going to make.

We have people who are seeing Mach Es in person starting next week. Get on the Tour thread and find someone who will either take measurements or photograph a phone in the charging spot (and tell you what kind of phone it is).

Not to go too OT here, but I’m waiting for Netatmo to release their video doorbell. HomeKit compatible, all video is stored locally (no service involved), and they may implement HomeKit secure video.

Check out picture 4 and 5
wow, that car has led a rough life! The blue interior is kind of neat though. I wonder why NA only gets black or white? Even Apple released blue this year ?

I'll bet it's a color balance issue and those are the black seats.

Wow that's great! I hadn't noticed how very tall that lip is until this photo and especially the ones @makooy just posted.

This will be good to keep the phone in placed while I'm executing Unbridled Cornering Maneuvers.

As for the MagSafe™ people... If you really want MagSafe™ in your Mach-E, this seems completely doable.

Ingredients:

You will need an iPhone with MagSafe. Or an Android phone with Qi charging and magnets. (Sorry Android users, no "MagSafe™" for you!)

You'll also need a Mustang Mach-E.

And ultra-slim neodymium disc magnets.

For attachment, you'll need scotch tape OR hot glue OR super glue. OR, if you're really handy, a drill press or plunge router. :)

Recipe:
  1. Determine the optimal centering of your phone onto Mach-E's charging pad. To do this, you'll need to find the placement that reliably gives you a faster charge and less waste heat than other placements. Maybe Apple shows this on the screen? (I don't know.)
  2. Remove both the iPhone and Mach-E's rubber charging mat from the charging tray, being very careful to keep the iPhone in its "optimal position" on the rubber mat.
  3. Carefully flip over the rubber pad and iPhone, so that the bottom surface of the pad is facing up towards you.
  4. While still keeping iPhone and pad in alignment, place the neodymium discs onto the rubber pad and slide them around until the futuristic "MagSafe™" AI holds them into their ideal positions.
  5. Tape the discs into their ideal positions. Or if you have higher confidence, glue them into position. Or if you have power tools, you can carefully route out 1/32" deep pockets for the magnets to slip into.
See! Easy pee-zee. Five simple steps.

Or just buy the Apple Magsafe charger and secure it to the existing pad area?

May want to do that anyway if the stock wireless charger isn't very powerful. The iPhone 12 can wireless charge up to 15W now, and Apple is claiming that's only with the MagSafe charger. They state that standard Qi charging on the iPhone 12 is limited to 7.5W (we don't know if this is just marketing to sell more MagSafe chargers yet). Either way, it may be advantageous to mount a MagSafe in the car, especially if you're using Apple Carplay wirelessly, as that can be a pretty big battery hog.

Folks, this is a deal breaker for me, I am going to cancel my order. I hear the "Y" will get a software update to MagSafe. iPhone 12 will work fine, Magsafe just holds it in place, how much does ones phone move around today? I don't have it today and I am doing just fine...
