If that’s the case, why hasn’ t Ford already sent out the new software? Especially if it’s an OTA update.
The same reason BC is still not rolled out via OTA to thousands of 21 model cars... Fords ability to manage OTA rollouts is just not very robust.

Looking back at Tesla, they had a similar issues from 2015 -2021. While also a Low number of occurrences, still have them.

This link below discusses Contactors 'In Great Depth' it appears their job is hazardous and difficult to begin with but they are necessary.

https://chargedevs.com/features/a-closer-look-at-contactors/

a quick internet search comes up will all kind of EV contactor 'deaths' in the line of duty.

My question is why can't this part be close to an opening or designed for easy replacement if they fail?
The "chargedevs.com" article (2d link above) is the best contactor explanation I've ever read. Much appreciate this informative article!

Nothing, except the knowledge that I can expect a software update in the not too distant future..
Gonna drive my car, enjoy the ride, and proceed about my business.

Maybe those *were* the droids we were looking for?
Best response I've heard yet! me personally I have switched to Engaged versus UnBridled and am driving like I did in my Escape, just back and forth to work.
Kinda helps with the mileage too... OH wait I don't have to put gas in it! ;) ⚡

So if the new cars already have it why are we waiting until July to get the fix?
The problem is simpler if you are starting with a brand new vehicle as the contactors should be in perfect shape - you could limit current as a function of temperature to hopefully ensure that the contactors never are damaged.

The problem is much more difficult if the vehicle has been in service, as the contactor may already have some damage. How does Ford determine how much damage the contactors on each vehicle has? Can the system measure voltage drop across the contactor to have some measure of existing damage? If those measurements are not available, should they make some assumptions on how damage accumulates with mileage, and have different current limits for vehicles with different mileage? Or should attempt to determine the worst possible damage on a vehicle that has not had a contactor failure yet, and have the software limit the current enough on all vehicles to ensure that they will not fail?

Ford may have to do some sampling of in-service vehicles to determine the range of contactor damage in the fleet and how it is distributed. Then they could analyze different proposed current limits to see which concept provided the best balance of protection vs vehicle performance.

Another possibility is perhaps Ford has identified that certain suppliers have provided "good" contactors, and other suppliers have provided "bad" contactors. They could then purge all the "bad" ones from stock and ensure that all newly manufactured vehicles have the "good" contactors.

That’s the way it works. It’s the same reason cars on the road didn’t start getting BlueCruise until months after cars were shipping from the factory with it preinstalled.

What has changed is the value of your car has plummeted in comparison to what it was valued at pre recall. If you are happy to accept that, great.

I'm curious, if it's an OTA update (tho I understand you can go to the dealer), will the Recall notice automatically clear after the OTA? I also note that while ford doesn't show this recall for my vin yet, the NHTSA site does.

have you seen evidence of that? I haven't so far, prices are still robust.

Prove it.
Mine dropped by £4783 in one week, here in the UK. I have the proof as I took screen shots of webuyanycar.com after I had sold it to them. I asked for a revaluation so I could test the market after the recall announcement. I sold my AWD ER Rapid Red at £200 over the cost new, to make way for my GT. Sadly the current offer is £4783 less than I achieved. If you wish to believe that the recall hasn’t affected the resale, believe it, it’s your prerogative. I am not posting proof, because you can’t take my word, about hard fact

I'm sure that is the idea.
