i question that majority is from Cali. so far California has best EV charging network.
The problem with California, specific to EVs, is that there are too many concentrated in areas, overwhelming chargers. Few other places have this issue. You cannot extrapolate these results over the rest of the country.

I will always have a full EV in my garage. But, if I can only have one car at this time, it'll be a PHEV. Right now I have the MME and two PHEVs, Hyundai Ioniq and Tucson both in limited trims. I know you guys love to dump on Hyundai here, but I'm super impressed with their current generation of cars.

For the past 20 years, I've always had at least one Lexus, and in the past 16 yrs all hybrids starting with the RX400h, to the last one a 2019 RX450h. Starting with the CT200h which I sold after buying the Ioniq PHEV on new year's eve 2020. I've been so impressed with the Ioniq I traded the RX450h for a Tucson PHEV 3 months ago and I couldn't be more pleased. My 3500 miles average MPG is currently at 89. Being a Lexus fan, originally I wanted the new NX450h+ PHEV and had put down a deposit since last July. After test driving the Tucson PHEV, I just could not justify the $15K difference. I prefer the Tucson PHEV over the RX450h in nearly every way, and the new NX interior is a total mixed bag.

Since I sold my Mach E GT, I have only ICE cars. I do have another BEV on order, but will be without one for another 6 months or more, it seems. My family owns a lot of cars, I will likely have multiple ICE cars until I am dead and gone... But I do like the BEV driving experience and I am looking forward to getting another one.

I had an Energi, the a Focus EV, and now the GTPE. My next vehicle will likely be a Lightning, but hard to justify having two trucks. After that, I plan to get 5 or 6 ICE's- one or two new ones while they're still available and a couple that are closer to a hundred years old. At some point I'll inherit my dad's 1910 Model T and maybe one or two others from his collection.

We live in the Midwest—chargers are around but not omnipresent. I love my EV and don’t want to be without one again. That said, our back up is a PHEV. Best of both worlds. Good around town and may be we’ll prefer it for long road trips. I’ve quickly gotten used to the fuel savings of the EV, though.
Same here - my wife loves our PHEV with 50 miles per charge daily. Hardly tap into the fuel tank....

My incoming Lightning (next month) will replace my ICE BMW which is sort of scary since I have driven BMWs for over 20 years.

If this MY'22 Lightning doesn't prove to be worth keeping, my back up is to get an EV BMW - iX.

My wife is waiting for her MY'22 MME but nothing but crickets so far...

I agree that a PHEV with adequate range would be an ideal vehicle. Our latest PHEV, the 2018 Fusion Energi, had 21 miles. That was not adequate IMO. I would prefer 75 - 100 miles.

We are a three EV family with no plans to go back. The only time I drive an ICE is a rental, and I miss the EV benefits every time. We do not do long trips in a car so YMMV.

So I have a situation that I am not sure how I am going to handle. SO Just about 2 years ago I put in a reservation for a Bronco. I had a very early (first 12 hour) reservation, so when they started shipping last spring and being a very high number at my dealer I sold my F150 in April as prices for use cars had gotten really high (didnt realize they would stay high). I figured I would be good without a car for a couple months while i waited as I was working from home. Well a month later all hell broke lose with the Bronco hard tops and I was told I wouldn’t be seeing my car until some time in 2022.

So I guess I got super lucky but after weighing my options I decided to get a Mach-e. Found a dealer who sold it at xplan pricing. I figured with the tax incentive and used car prices being high I wouldn’t really lose financially if i had it for 6 months. Well over a year later I still have it and after all this time my bronco was just built this past week and is supposed to arrive first week in august. Though now I am honestly not sure I want to keep it.

I never thought this would be the case. While I was really interested in the Mach-e to try out eletric, I am not crazy about the exterior looks. I do like the interior, the sound system and honestly the way it drives and performs is amazing. I drove my wife’s jeep a couple weeks ago and hitting the gas and having it do nothing was a bummer, lol. I have really come to love all aspects of driving an electric vehicle. Except for reload trips. Ram into a ton of issue trying to find charging in Rhode island that really blew up our plans.

But the acceleration, the upgradability, the quiet, the handling, all of these things have been great. I also finally found a real use for the frunk and use it to store all my smelly mountain biking gear instead of keeping it in the car.

SO I am not sure I can go back to an ICE vehicle. Gas prices aren’t helping. I am considering taking delivery, maybe drive the bronco for the the last month of summer and then sell it and helping to pay down the mach-e. I actually I am seriously considering a rivian. I did put in for a reservation a couple months ago and think at this point it would better suit my needs. Many of the wants from a more rugged vehicle but all the pluses I have enjoyed in the Mach-e.

So not sure where this is going to land, but interested if anyone else has done the switch back.
I was sorta in your same shoes. Reserved a First Edition Maverick last Fall. Sold my F-150 Limited outright for cash since we have a 2020 F-150 that my husband drives. I drove our 2011 Fusion for a few months but it's air conditioner went out in it and would be several thousand to fix so I started to look at Mach's in the mean time. I picked one up after looking for one a couple months. I absolutely love it! My Mav is still unscheduled and if it stays that way.... I'm good with it. Now if it gets built, I will be in a big dilemma. Yeah the hybrid would be great but buying no gas right now is even better! I can charge at work. My work also gave me a $2500 bonus when I bought it. (electric industry) So with the $7500 tax credit, it was a no brainer to buy and drive for awhile.

Apologies, off-topic, but could you elaborate on this? We were thinking of driving our Mach-E to RI this August and staying there for several days. I looked briefly at PlugShare and it seemed like there were some fast charging options, at least around Warwick.

I have both and will probably stay that way. We do drive the Mach almost exclusively but the Expedition and F150 are better at hauling things. The real question for me is what will I do in the future with regards to a second vehicle? Go with ICE or a second BEV?
I have both a mach e and PHEV and will keep bth for the foreseeable future. I primarily use the mach e, but the PHEV is preferred for long trips.

Maverick Hybrid….. I’ve had one eight months now and it’s freaking fantastic
Actually get close to 60 miles per gallon in the city. Drives like a car mostly. Not really luxurious but certainly comfortable capable and inexpensive to own and buy and now they’re charging 15 K over MSRP you can get on the order books August 15 I believe. My loaded lariat was 35K with every option including the hard tonneau cover a truck cover and all the bed toys

Jes sayin. I have nothing bad to say about it unlike my two sold ponies.

we go from MN to MI every couple of years, and enjoy going through the Mi upper peninsula to avoid Chicago traffic, plus it’s a great scenic drive. With the MME (still waiting for build) and current rural charging infrastructure, I wouldn’t take that UP route.
You definitely shouldn't take it yet (at least not in a non-Tesla EV). However, on the Plugshare app you can see multiple "coming soon" fast charging stations dotting the highways in the UP. It appears that the main issue holding up installation are grid connection and demand fees the local electric utilities want to charge. They should hire someone from EA who could help them navigate that.

With the recent financial woes faced by Tesla, I'll bet that they open up their superchargers to non-Teslas sooner than later. That makes the UP an easy and stress-free route.

Going north into the UP like Houghton is risky as no dcfc chargers exist. Ironwood is the same.
