Sorry this happened to you again. How confident are you that the new HVBJB will resolve this issue permanately?
? no idea but can't be worse

86 miles of range in 48% battery?! What’s that about?

Yeah, they're just spreading out the pain. Sorry you're having to be the space monkey.
Hey at least we're going to see if the new part doesn't fail in my car ;-)

gah, this sucks. So sorry to hear. I was going to get the update next week at the dealer but sounds like this is just a glorified bandaid to keep you on the road a bit longer before failure so I'll wait for the OTA.

I have to do update on coming Tuesday and travel very same route in couple weeks. Right now, I'm at doubt if I need to apply recall patch and in general look for rental car for the trip.... ;(
Thank you for posting, does Ford covered your rental car by original warranty or you used extended coverage?

I certainly hope not. Has Ford published any specifications for the new part that would promote confidence as a permanent solution?

Sorry Scoopman but for the benefit of the community you were the perfect owner for this to happen to. We all appreciate you and hopefully you get to enjoy the rest of your vacation with your family.

I have no doubt at this point (especially with commentary by people like @DevSecOps) that they know this is a band-aid and most affected Ford engineers will just consume an additional adult beverage or two at a cookout this holiday...
Guilt-ridden Ford engineers at bbqs this weekend:

There are many, many people who drive aggressively and have 2 or three times the number of miles on their cars when compared with Scoop's car. I have almost 12,000 miles on mine, and I have been driving it everywhere I can. And I will continue to do so.

The failure rate is still very low, so I am trying not to let my participation in this forum effect how I feel about my car. And I still look forward to driving it on long trips.

It is quite strange that some people have had multiple failures while others have not had any. I have speculated in the forum before about tolerances on other parts, like the motors and batteries, that could impact the HVBJB. Maybe Scoop's car has a motor that pulls a lot more current than mine? There is something different, it seems anyway.
OMG, we agree 100% on something. :)

I was going to come here to post this, but you said almost exactly my thoughts.

There's a slightly less cynical way to look at it. The software allows Ford to safely and compliantly spread the true repair process out and only replace failing parts. Instead of dropping 50k batteries in ~6 months they now can spread it over potentially several years (even in the case that the failure rate is higher than we have seen so far, which is currently around 1% per year).
Yours is the fully cynical take. I.e., that Ford is cynically stringing along both customers and regulators with half-truths for its own convenience and cost avoidance.

Ford hasn’t made any statement that it has redesigned the problem part.

But there's another possibility here: the HVBJB was already degraded from usage under the previous configuration and the software detected the issue.

We still don't know exactly what the software does, but let's suppose it does fix the excess load through the contactors. That still wouldn't mean it can magically undo pitting and damage from the past.
Well hopefully this is the first time Ford has gotten an HVBJB they believe was going to fail before it fails which means they should be able to run a lot more tests on it than they could have a melted HVBJB to maybe improve the detection or best case remove a software flaw causing it as hard as it is for everyone to believe a software flaw could cause it. But hey one can hope.

Must gv it to @scoopman for taking this as graciously as he could... Can't imagine myself being this calm on the road with a car that might stop at any moment.

Trying to calm myself by frequently reminding @DevSecOps comments that this is still prevalent in <1% of the cars on the road!
The 0.5% (less than 1%) doesn't entirely mesh well with a second failure to the same person. Either he needs lottery tickets or there are still non-understood issues at play here.
