Edit: My original HVBJB did not fail. I opted to pay to have it replaced on my terms and my schedule lol.
I actually don’t think this is crazy at all. I’m not sure I will take that step but I have two other cars I can take on longer rides. People swap out rims and tires and make other mods for close to if not more than the cost of replacing one’s HVBJB (around $2K it seems) so having peace of mind for that price to avoid that the car leaving you stranded seems quite reasonable to me. We all have our individual risk threshold and I tend to be risk averse. If I had lots of time on my hands and no work or family pressures I might feel differently but I can’t afford to get stuck far from home so my MME, at least for now, is for local driving, at least until I get a new HVBJB.

@RMoore: My main reason for paying for mine is I use my MME for my daily 160 mile roundtrip commute. I have a 2021 Mustang GT that I could drive if needed (originally my daily driver on commute) but spending $900 month on gas hit redline for me lol. We don't have the gas prices that places like CA have seen but we did exceed $5/gal for premium in our area. Even at $4/gal, still going to cost way more than cost to drive MME. We replaced our Nissan Kicks ICE with MME. Currently saving around $500/month. Once I get some mileage on new HVBJB, I will probably sell the Mustang GT.

Every now and then when I read this forum I learn amazing things, and sometimes say to myself "I think I live in a different world". Today, it happened again. I read this thread with astonishment and amazement. I kept pinching myself, wondering if I was dreaming, or if this was real. It seems real, but I continue to wonder.

A $160 pillow? Are you F'in kidding me? Does it have sex with you?

Wow, California is a different world. ? ? ? ? ? ?
Sleep is important, if you are having trouble sleeping, $160 on something that might get you slightly better sleep for years to come is a great buy. People pay triple that just to have a color they like more on their cars or double that just to have a separate app to track their home charger usage.

I've heard arguments like that from many people on different things. My take - people in California make X times the rest of the country in salary, and have X times the costs on many things they have to buy (rent, etc.) and are numb/used to crazy high prices.

I wouldn't pay $160 for a pillow if it had sex with me. I also wouldn't pay $5,000 for a bed.

I'm a marketer by trade, over 40 years. It's amazing how people buy into marketing messages on value when in fact behind the scenes the value isn't really there, but the message convinces them that it is. When you get into the sourcing world, you see manufacturing lines churning out multiple versions of a product under different labels, some of which are widely apart on price, but you can see the content is nearly the same, or exactly to the same.

I'm glad people find products that help them sleep better, and are happy with their purchases. What you spend on your products should only matter to you. To each their own.

I'm off to research the $500 pillow that does have sex with you, so I can invest in the company!

Not sure if you e ever had any neck pain, but from personal experience and seeing some family member, relief is priceless

Luckily I found a pillow that worked and it was a lot cheaper but if I didn’t I wouldn’t hesitate to spend that and I am from lowly NY

Rick would probably keel over and die if he saw how much I spend on Manuka honey and wagyu beef each month.

I'm guessing that it's gonna cost a lot more that $160 to get something to have sex with you.

This is literally the most shocking thing I've read in this forum to date.

If someone told me that I had to choose "the least-likely person on this forum to understand people," guess who I'd pick?

Yup, I would pay a lot of money if my morning neck pain would go away.

But you have the base model, isn't that the lease susceptible to being damaged? Also, it doesn't take too much pushing to get your gas fully covered during the period, especially if you're willing to use your own car and not costing them a loaner/rental. To each their own, I guess what is done is done, I just don't see the point at all.

This is a king sized pillow. I love this pillow so much, I bought a standard sized one to put in my carry-on for when we travel.

And I live in Michigan.

You'd probably faint if I told you how much our bed cost. But the wife and I both have back problems, and with our Sleep Number, we both can finally get a restfull sleep.

The down pillows Marriott uses are pretty good. If I don't have one of those, I cannot sleep. Usually they have them in the room, but maybe that is because it is on my Bonvoy preferences? Hopefully Rick hasn't tried to have sex with any of them.

You might want to start bringing your own pillow case and sheets
