Is PAAK now a reasonable app?

When I first got my MME in late 2021 the threads about PAAK were pretty negative and so I never bothered to try it out. Has the app matured enough that it's a better experience now? I have one of my two fobs currently AWOL in my house and it has me wondering about PAAK.

Thoughts?

PaaK is not an app.

PaaK turns your phone into a key. Depending on your phone, it may, or may not, be a pleasurable experience for you.

So that begs the question, what phones does PAAK work well with?

I’ve had good success with it on an IPhone. The only nuisance I had is I’ve noticed it is not quite as quick as a key fob.

When I walk into the garage with the car, I sometimes have to press the hatch button a couple of times before it opens. I don’t mind the delay as it’s better than carrying a key fob. I take the keyfob with me on a long trip though.

Give it a try and see if you like it. Make sure you have a password setup incase you have problems. That seems to work when needed.

Has worked great for me over the last year. I have a Pixel that runs the beta builds, so basically bleeding edge for Android. We had some issues a month or so ago but all worked out now. I would definitely give it a try.

Mine works great once in a while but I can't count on it. I would never leave my fob at home.

PaaK has certainly gotten better over the last year or so. The experience seems to vary, especially in the early days. I was originally a key-only dog because of all of the negative posts about it before I got my car in late November of ‘21. I set up PaaK on a lark a couple of days after I got the car. The only times I have carried a physical key since were when I knew I was taking it to the dealer and when I was road tripping. I’m not saying my experience has been flawless (looking at you, server-side email address recognition bug and FordPass Support guy who insisted I delete my PaaK even through I told him multiple times that I didn’t have a physical key). I am saying that for me it has worked well on both an iPhone X and an iPhone 13 Pro. ??

PAAK was working very well for me until I received a number of updates in pretty rapid succession, ending in 4.1.3. At this point, it's so unreliable I have given up and carry a key. Before, I would go 1-2 months without having to use the door code. Now, it will not work unless I turn disable and re-enable bluetooth on my phone between every key cycle, even if I stay in the car. I have been using the same phone the entire time, a Samsung flip4.

It makes me wonder if the bluetooth connection in the car suffered when they implemented polling for public wifi. This is a complete shot in the dark though.

I have gradually been using PaaK more and more over the last few months as my wife takes the car regularly and typically has our only fob in her purse. I have never had a problem with PaaK working to start and drive the car (e.g. never had the No Key Found error). However, I'm running 5% or less with having PaaK recognize that I'm standing next to the door and unlocking the car. I have to either open Ford Pass and use it to unlock the doors or use the door code to unlock, then everything works. Walk away lock seems to work 95% of the time.

'21 Premium 4eX (Job 2) running 4.1.2 (maybe 4.1.3), Pixel 6 Pro with latest released OS.

iPhone XR, 2022 Select. Works 100% of the time, but not always the first time. Sometimes I have to take my phone out of my pocket and wake it up to get it to work (10% of the time). Never has it left me stranded, and even if it did, I have a door code and backup passcode. I only bring my FOB for valets if we're traveling, since the valet code is foreign to many valets still.
