Beach Driving??

Hello,

Curious to see opinions or if it’s just facts, can you take the AWD model out on the beach?

Real soft and sandy by me, trucks get stuck a lot out there if not aired down enough.

It only has 5.7" ground clearance, wayyyyyyyyyyy less than a truck, and aired down gonna be even slightly lower. I think it would be very dumb to take it on a beach but..........to each their own?

Wife has had our 2wd on the beach. Stuck 3 times, once just at the booth. Torque+small patch+sand+weight= stuck.

Beach days are the only days she does not take the Mustang.

Bumping up this old thread just to see if anyone else has been brave enough to take their MME out on the sand. There's one beach in Michigan that I have my eyes on, but not sure I want to add a tow budget and public ridicule to my trip planning.

Wow, that is indeed brave. I'm nervous going over speed bumps with the MME's ground clearance (or lack thereof). Beach sand sounds terrifying.

Select tires are very narrow, so even inflating down, thin tires, heavy car, low clearance....We promise not to laugh if you share stuck photos

With AWD and low enough pressure in the tires on fairly flat sand, it should do fine. I have spent countless hours driving on sand in lifted 4x4s, and it is the tire pressure that makes the most difference, but if you need some ground clearance there is no substitute. Still, I've seen plenty of dune buggies and VW bugs run in the sand without many problems.

I know the battery pack is supposed to be well protected and well sealed, but my bigger concern would be all that electrical stuff and salt water (assuming we're talking ocean beach).

No. Stupid idea. Our ocean sand has plenty of salt to digest metal. Plenty of places to beach drive here but I like my vehicles to last.

All that weight with low ground clearance and torque kicking the sand quicker than traction pulling you out. Not a great combination. I'd stick to renting out an actual off-roader to beat around if I were you.

How many dune buggies does it take to weigh the same as an MME? ?‍

I have considered doing this myself, but I think the ground clearance is a deal killer. Hard sand, no problem. But if you hit any soft sand and start to sink I think you will get suck.

Once the battery pack rests on the sand, all four wheels will spin and spin and spin, and the locals will laugh and laugh and laugh.

if you had super wide tires to float ya maybe....

but the front and rear diapers are going to pick up LOTS of sand sprayed in from the wheel wells.

I'd say.... not a great idea
