Maybe I have an answere for you. It's important that your USB flash drive uses MBR (master boot record) partition table instead of the newer GPT (GUID Partition Table). It seems like something in the car isn't compatible with the newer GPT. Maybe the APIM itself, or the component the USB port in the car connects to. However, if thats really the case, it's a shame again for FORDs software development, because GPT was introduced back in the 2000s.

I once tried to update my APIM with an USB stick, which I had used before for successful updates, and suddenly always got an error instantly, after pluging the USB stick into the car.
After some experimenting with redownloading, reformating and deleting partions on the drive, I noticed my drive was using GPT partition table now (must have changed by using the same drive as an USB install stick for some linux servers).
I changed it back to MBR and the next attempt of the update was successful instantly and since then never had this problem again, because I always check my USB sticks for MBR now.

You can check the used partition table in the properties panel of the USB drive

You can change the partition table type with the Windows Disk Management tool or some simple cmd commands:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/w...management/change-a-gpt-disk-into-an-mbr-disk

Would be cool, if some of you guys doing your own FDRS updats could check your USB drives and report back if you are using MBR or GPT.
If all of this is really the reason for the failed updates, this information should definitly be added to the FDRS information page, which tells you to use exFAT, etc.

So much of what you and others are saying reads like Phoenician hieroglyphs, fascinating, but unintelligible for us who have not learned your technical language. Can you point me in a direction so that i can learn the language you all are speaking and thereby, fix my similar problem for myself, also? I appreciate your dedication and desire to share your wealth of knowledge with the rest of us.

Respectfully,

Gio

How about the Explorer? Went in yesterday. Did they actually do anything? Service advisor was vague and couldn’t answer questions.
Thanks,

Looking at the history it doesn't look like they did anything on the 30th.

Here is February 23rd.

There is still a DSM update available.

Thanks! So much for what the dealer said about the DSM, but at least they did the latest HVAC update, only because I provided them the relevant TSB. Nevertheless, the list of outstanding updates just seems to grow.....

Thanks again!

Thank you so much! Maybe by them doing the BCM, it also did the TCU module in the background. I started with 12 outstanding modules yesterday. I really appreciate you looking into this for me.

There is a thread on Mach-E related acronyms. They likely won’t help with stuff like MBR or GUID since those are file system formats recognized by various computer operating systems. ??

Good afternoon all…..
Beautiful day in NE Pennsylvania….

So……
Patiently waiting for another OTA update
Last update, Jan 23, 2023… 3.6.2

VIN-3FMTK3SU1MMA56293, 2021 Premium J2
If someone could check & see if something is out of sorts !?
Regards & thank you…..,

Bill Pitman

UPDATE- 5/1/23
So, I wake up to “ update successful“ , received ford power-up 4.2.1………
I’m scheduled to dealer on Friday, 5/12, to try and get over the possible PCM dependency issue…
Has the ford server and my car finally figured things out…..?! ?
Will see if other updates happen within next several days…..
FYI- I have been keeping the car on a low amperage battery maintainer( it’s amazing how quickly the LVB goes below 80% during use)

Hi Mike. I have updated the car at the dealership. Could you please check if the dealership updated all the updates? Im little bit surprised thst they did it so fast because the car was given back to me within 45 minutes, and when I called they said 4 hours for the updates.
Thank you for your fantastic service.

? I don't think FDRS does 'stealth' updates. The TCU might have come as an OTA though.

So what they did on the 31st was update all the cruise-control related modules (IPMA, CCM, CMR, PSCM) as well as the OBCC for DCDC fast charging, and the HVAC module for the windscreen fogging issue.

That GWM (gateway) should come as an OTA. make sure to set your update schedule to check for updates during a time you'll be driving the car in an area with good cell coverage, (like on the way to work). Middle of the night while parked doesn't work as well.

Looks like the latest time you had the car in was starting on the 21st through the 25th. At least those are the days that programming was done. On the 29th and 30th somebody checked your VIN in PTS but no work was done on those days.

These modules were successfully programmed in the sequence shown, unless noted otherwise:

21st: HVAC, PATS (Keyfob), PCM, SOBDM, SOBDMB, SOBDMC, BECM, WACM, GFM, GSM, OBCC, PSCM were updated.

22nd: DSM, BCM were updated.

23rd: IPC, GWM, APIM (failed), APIM (failed), APIM (succeeded), GWM, APIM, GWM, TCU, GWM (failed), GWM (succeeded).

24th: APIM (failed) "Procedure Unsuccesful - ParseAndCompareFlashActionApplications Unable to obtain software binary file: NU5T-14H212-MH"

25th: APIM (failed) "The programming or part number validation process has failed."

Your current software revision is the 14G676-DT which I believe equates to Sync 539. It's the version where connection to two cell phones was enabled.

So I don't know if they told you they had problems updating that APIM any further, but as far as Sync goes you have been updated to just before the update for the new UI (Sync 640) and you have an APIM update in your list now:
Ford Mustang Mach-E Post here if you have an active FDRS account and are willing to look up info for others 3FMTK3SU7MMA39322-=3-Apr-23

So that APIM update in your list was the one they couldn't get to process using FDRS in the shop. You might ask them what their next move is since if they couldn't get it to update using FDRS it's likely not going come as an OTA either. So they would have to address this or you probably won't get any more updates to Sync.

The door module updates came out after your last visit.
