My car got a bunch of messages overnight while charging and now it is completely dead. I cannot unlock the doors and access the vehicle. It’s in my garage and the door was never opened. Also showing red ring when I open the charge door. Any ideas what’s going on here?

Hi Ralph,

Assuming you tried the suggestion in your screenshot: "Try unplugging and plugging back in..." (Reminds me of that show, The I.T. Crowd: Have you turned it off and back on again? :) )

If plugging back in does not work, maybe try a different solution. Example, if using L2, try L1 connection instead.

Sounds like the 12V battery is drained as well, you may be able to charge or jump that battery in order to open doors, etc.

Another comment in your screenshot references after-market devices, do you have any such electrical devices installed? Assuming no, but if so, I'd remove until this is resolved.

Good luck, looking forward to hearing how you resolved this.

And, if anyone asks how you're doing today, this might be the day to respond "Like a penguin in the Sahara!"

The message at 02:29 about some sort of electrical drain explains it. Your 12V battery is discharged. When the 12V gets low, the alarm can trigger, along with a bunch of other weird behaviors. If you have access to another 12V battery and jumper cables, you can get the frunk open so that you can then charge the 12V battery. There is an access panel on the front bumper with the emergency frunk release leads. Just apply 12V to them and the frunk should open.??

Once you are able to get enough charge into the 12V, you can get the car in Neutral so you can get it towed. But first see if you can get it to start. If so, drive it straight to your dealer for diagnosis. ??

The only thing I can think of is I enabled TOU charging two days ago and perhaps somehow it drained the battery while it was waiting to charge it during the TOU window. I have no aftermarket devices whatsoever

Unfortunately people have been having issues with their cars after receiving the latest updates. It appears your issues occurred right after receiving the latest power up. Have you, as suggested, unplugged the charge cable and then plugged back in? Have you attempted to communicate with the car via Ford Pass?

Yes to both. No response from the car.

For your ToU charging, did you install or enable any software that monitors your car’s state of charge? There are many utility companies that monitor the SoC and ping the car way too often, which has caused these exact symptoms to many cars. ??

Yes. It was a new program in my area offered by the electric company. I guess I learned my lesson. Ford roadside wants $95 to come jump it. The car is less than a year old. Is that normal? Once they jump it will it charge at that point?

So you provided the utility with access to your FordPass account, which they then used to ping it? Or, did you install an OBD adapter from them?

You get free roadside assistance for 5 years. They cannot charge you. @Ford Motor Company, why does this kind of bulls@it response keep happening from Ford Roadside Assistance?

I told her that and she said I had to pay it and then ford would maybe reimburse it because she can’t see my policy. I guess I should just pay it to get this issue resolved.

If it is the glitchy software due to the latest power up then it should charge. You need to check your charge settings. If it is something more than that I have no idea. Good luck!

There is no "policy". You get free Roadside for 5 years.

I’ll fight that battle after they get the car running. Once they jump it will the 12V charge or do I still need to do something else?

Well, your screen name is maybe appropriate today .... but seriously, you need to pop your frunk and charge your 12V first of all. Search and you can find out how to do this. I would go to a hardware or autoparts store and get a battery charger 10x and do this myself before I relied on anyone from Ford Roadside helping me out. It's easy to do.

Once you do that, I would read this thread, it sounds like your problem as your car went crazy after one of Ford's expertly QA tested OTA updates plus L2 charging:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...ng-service-vehicle-soon-while-charging.26983/

You might also really want to invest in a $20 OBD-II port reader. That plus a free app Car Scanner on your phone can tell you what is going on with your car.
