For this to make sense in my mind, there needs to be a direct link between Volvo and the CCP.

Is there one? I know Huawei is beholden to the CCP...but is Geely?

The US govt has taken a stance on Huawei...if Volvo was using Huawei components that it deemed a concern, it seems logical in my mind that they wouldn't have any concern pointing this out. Have they?

And what came of Volvo buying out Geely's investment in the company? Seems that should bode well for concerns. https://www.caixinglobal.com/2021-0...-lifting-foreign-ownership-cap-101743869.html
It is the law in China that all chinese companies must support state espionage. This is the same reason there have been moves to ban tiktok in the US.

And this is definitely not politics. This is a national security issue, and I don't want the CCP to have my data, or have control over my car. Can you imagine a situation where we are in open conflict with them and they shut down all our cars? Sure, that is unlikely, but in war anything is possible and the unlikely becomes likely.

Putting the politics aside (perhaps you guys can TikTok about this or watch Fox news to talk geopolitics) looks like another strong competitor in a luxury compact EV SUV segment.

In particular looks like their rear packaging and safety should be really strong, along with performance to rival the base Macan EV.

I bet this one might have the fancy CarPlay stuff in it too.

Wish polestar was supporting better charging performance, but it looks like this is still a 400v architecture.

I think we should always seek out products which are made in counties which respect human / labor rights, the environment, intellectual property, etc.
I agree. But so far as I can tell, countries that respect human rights no longer exist.

I'm with you this car looks great and will perform better than MME GT because they are already offering OTA updates in EU for the Polestar 3. Add in that this will be made in US its will be a big seller IMO. Comparing to the Macan is a good point I think that is who they are targeting since Polestar sells well in Europe.
If this car was available this year I would order it today.

I don't either, but Snowden showed us our own government snoops on us via backdoors in Gmail, Youtube, social media, etc... Not to mention Tesla employees recently shown to snoop on private customer videos.

At this point, I just assume that none of what I do is private. No company or government can be trusted so I just go with the best technology that will benefit me.

I just can't get over the lack of a rear window! What if the camera lens is blocked by grime or dust or salt. Plus I bet I'll get motion sickness looking at the video camera rear view mirror.

If the camera lens is blocked, I think I'd notice that right away and would get back out of the vehicle to clear it up.

My concern when I read about this car was that there's one fewer options for exiting in an emergency... Mainly just thinking about that because of this woman's very recent account on Reddit where she had to exit her Mach-E through the tailgate.

I originally thought she kicked out the rear glass, but one of her later comments indicates that she actually had to partially open the tailgate itself so I suppose the same would apply to the Polestar 4:

Obviously subjective, but I wouldn't make that moral equivalency myself.

With current technology, a camera instead of a window or mirror is an inane idea. The processing speed in frames per second of reading, transferring, and displaying data from the camera to the screen is way too low and too unreliable to be used in place of speed-of-light technology like mirrors and windows. (Source: I'm a remote sensing scientist who works in the visible light and near-IR range and with advanced cameras).

It boggles me that the US requires side view mirrors, but no rear window is fine.

I applaud Polestar for trying to think outside the box however.
