I did not buy a warranty because I am averaging about 6months-1year of ownership on each car I buy, but If I was keeping my Mach E beyond warranty I'd 100% buy an extended warranty.
Floodford is an option
Grangers and you can also buy extended warranty online through Ford.
If you are in California, you can't buy from all of the above, you must buy it through a dealer with a license to operate in the state.
You keep your cars for that short of a period?!

If you ever have to replace the center console alone, you're going to pay more than you would for the warranty. It's practically a no-brainer for cars that are all electronic components.

^^ This ^^.

Two extended warranties have saved me about 3+ thousand dollars (together) on two previoys cars..
a Toyota Prius and later on a Ford Fusion Energi. All related to electronics failures.

so.... the failures occurred AFTER 'regular' warranty period?
what failed, and when by the way?

I never buy extended warranties.... I figure the warranty companies wouldn't offer them if they lost their bets very often. Standard warranty *should* be enough to get thru electronic failures.... which tend to occur within 90-day burn-in periods, except for batteries of course. Insurance should take care of accident damaged components like sensors and lights, less deductible of course.

I'm a little worried about the center console display, and how long that will last. not sure if that's 3-year standard coverage, or 8-year.... anybody know?

Gotitatgranger 8yrs/100k miles. A backup camera was $1,900 plus installation. It was under new car warranty. One problem and I will get my money back.

So I think a good point to make about warranties for cars, at least in some states, is that if you sell the vehicle, the warranty is refundable or you can cancel it at any time and get your money back depending on how long its been, if its past the manufacturer window, you get prorated.

I have always purchased them as wee only paid dealer cost. I do not believe I will purchase another now that my wife has retired. We have never had to use one and we keep p all of our cars over 10 years. I do plan to trade in my Mach for either a next gen Mach (if there is one in 2-3 years) or another EV in that time frame.

I used to never buy them too... when cars were basically mechanical machines.

My 1st Prius, bought new in 2003 when my BMW had an engine heart attack at 199,700 or so miles, decided to fry its "ECU" i.e. a central electronics control unit, within something like a month before its extended warranty expired... exact dates or relevant mileage escape me now. That was a $990 unit, as quoted to me at the time, although the replacement labor was about 20 minutes.

Three cars later, the 2015 Fusion Energi also had something weird go bad... something (this car was electronically much more complex) that essentially controlled the display of formerly manual button functions on its 8-inch central display. As a result, I had no heat, no A/C, no radio and I couldn't control the TOU electric charging time in that Energi.

Extended warranties paid for both electronic repairs on both cars.

I had two other Priuses in between these two cars - one got hit by lightning while parked at the house and was insurance-totaled early in its life, and my final Prius was fine until it just started to fall apart with age and hard use.

So, that's 2 for four.

Prior to that 1st Prius, I used to laugh at the concept.

I guess I'm trying to say that with the ever-increasing number and complexity of electronics in cars, we're getting further away from the ability to fix things with a wrench and just to "figure things out".

Look at how many functions are accessed mainly or solely through our central touch display. Can't trace wires to a mechanical rotary button or relay like we could before...

This thread has me thinking about getting a warranty. Does the warranty period backdate to the date of sale or going forward? I haven't had my MME a year yet, I got it on August 25th, 2022.
Looking at Granger ford but I've also read that Lombard and Ziegler have good prices too.

Yep, I don't keep them for long, I am shopping for a car now and this would be my 10th since 2020.

I dont think conventional thinking can be applied to new, super techy cars. The "companies make money off warranties" might not prove out with EVs. Look at battery warranties, GM just/is replacing every battery in every Bolt. Nissan was having most 2011-2012 Leaf batteries fail. Right now companies are thinking, EVs have less parts, the warranties are less than half of an ICE, sure my motor wont die, but sensors, bluecruise, cameras, door buttons, actuators....

also i know for a fact that many times companies lose money on warranties. of course they try not to, but when things are uncertain (e.g. brand new car, tons of new components) it's highly possible.

finally note that their parts costs are not necessarily the same as the parts price they charge you so you can imagine a scenario where they both make money and you win out...

all in all if i don't get $1200 in warranty repairs on this car in the next 8 years i'd be SHOCKED

For other cars, adding air suspensions to the equation and ESP will be a must. $1,000 per axle for parts, that will be $2,000 plus installation. I have seen many failed air suspensions within 5-8 years.
