Hello All,

New here and Considering purchasing a Mach-E. I just moved from Florida to Arizona and did not realize that my daily commute would be a total of 110 miles per day (55mi one way). Because of the lengthy commute, I am spending about $500 a month on gas alone which is a shocker for me. Florida had gas prices at $3.55/gallon and here in AZ I'm paying $5/gallon.

Obviously the extended range battery is going to be better, but I am going for a select model with the standard range battery because buying an EV was not planned.

Will the standard battery be good as a daily driver with my commute and the AZ hot weather?

Thank you,
Milani

Should not be a problem. If you are in Phoenix or Tucson you never have to worry about cold weather effects on range. And electricity is cheap in AZ, charging at night I pay $0.07 per kwh with APS, I think SRP is similar, not sure about Tucson electric rates. You also do not need AWD here.

I agree with @AZBill . The other factor to consider is where you will charge and at what level. With a long commute, you will benefit greatly from a Level 2 charger at home or at work so that you can start your drive comfortable that you have plenty of range.

Lastly, the A/C does a good job keeping the car comfortable, but it does take a while to cool the car if it's been sitting in the sun. Covered parking will help significantly.

Thank you both @AZBill AND @az-paco. Because of the distance I drive, I'm expecting that I will need to charge daily. Will this be an issue?

My dealership has a Level 2 charger and at home I will use the 110 overnight. How many miles should I expect from 8 hours of 110 charging?

Thank you,
Milani

I have been using 120 line for the life of my car ('21 Select w/RWD and SR battery)......Ford says about 3mi/hr of estimated charge on a 120 line.....however, your estimated distance is also related to your driving history.....I do very little high speed driving (60+mph), mostly 35-45.....I have averaged 5.2m/kwh for the life of the car because of how I drive......I would say about 24ish miles of estimated range w/8 hr of charging on a 120 line.....the level 2 at your dealership would add about that in an hour or so.....I think, if I were you, I would try to charge somehow during the day......even if you could charge on a 120 line at your work.....

If you cannot charge during the day, I think installing a level 2 at home would do away with any problems

you'll only get like 30 miles overnight on 120. It's painfully slow

Just out of curiosity, as a Ford salesperson, are they not giving you training internally about the Mach E?

Not entirely relevant from UK but the Stang is great in all weathers I find and standard range should be more than adequate for 110 mile round trip commute.

Although mine’s ER I do 300 to 500 mile runs fairly regularly starting on home charge and even charging out on road it’s really just great!

Enjoy, I just know you will!

Mine’s just turned 58,000 and still luvvin it.

And your gas would be $8.50/gal in UK!!!!!!

You will need 4-6 hours per day of L2 charging to recover your 110 mile commute milage. Do you want to leave your car at the Dealer for that long. Also, I don't think they will allow you to charge for free indefinitely.

They absolutely do, however there is a difference in real world experience VS standard text.

I have a standard range, rear wheel drive for over two years now and it's been more than adequate for Phoenix summers.

I can't charge at work but my commute is a lot shorter than yours, about 18-20 miles each way depending on how I go. I could go probably four days or maybe more between fill ups. I don't bother with those games though -- I plug in every night.

On my level 2 charger in the garage, I always wake up to a "full" vehicle.

It was over 13 of your Dollars at one point!

I remember when petrol got to equivalent if 67c/gal and people were going to burn their cars?

I bought a MME GT about a month ago - I have a commute of 75 miles each way. I get about 2.2 miles per kWh - but I am driving over 75 MPH as ~65 miles of my commute is interstate driving. I don’t see your commute working without a level 2 at one end, at least (I charge on both sides of my commute as my 75 miles of driving takes about 100 miles of range off my battery in temperate weather). Speed kills mileage, though, so your situation may be different.
