Just a reminder to @Ford Motor Company that you still have a lot of Loyal, beta tester, job 1 Mach-Es that are still missing the remote FRUNK release. Seems like you have the ota thing down now so push that FRUNK OTA!!!!

Also - Everyone should tweet at Jim Farley and @Ford Motor Company: (13) Jim Farley on Twitter: "The new Frunk button in FordPass was the result of customer feedback and a good example of how digital/connected vehicles can improve over time. ?" / Twitter
2 months ago I made a trip to my dealer and said I don't have the FRUNK button icon on my display on the left hand side of the TRUNK button Icon-- After a bit of DO-SE-DO I said I needed the software updated--It took a good part of the day but--I received back my 06/2021 Prem EX AWD with the FRUNK Button-- Lucky Me--Press your dealer and demand the software upgrade--Don't let them play dumb , they have it--Oh and thee was no charge!

Your dealer was being nice to you. There is no Ford program telling them to do this service for free. Furthermore, there are some dealers who are stuck in an ICE mentality who will refuse to do this update at all as there is no TSB, SSM, or CSP for it. Those dealers will tellltiu that new features are Ford’s responsibility, not theirs.

Yup, Job 1 FE here x 2.

Had mine in last week for the 20k maintenance ($35) and asked about this.

Told them specifically BCM, GFM, then run routine to enable screen button. No charge.

When I got it home was able to open via the screen and the drivers door keypad.

Bought the 5 button key on ebay. Programmed that easily with my 2 fobs and now I have 3 ways to open the frunk, which I think I will now get more use out of.

Also FWIW, I submitted receipts for buying a second key and the charge for programming them to my service tech for 2 vehicles. A few days later we had checks in the mail.

A remote frunk release sounds like an accident waiting to happen. The double pull on the interior release gives you a second chance to consider if you REALLY want to open THAT right now??.
Ummm...so that's why all the '21 Job 2 cars and newer can open their frunks with the Sync softbutton or door keypad? Because it's an accident waiting to happen? And obviously Ford wasn't interested in our safety when they shipped the Lightning pickup and many EU cars with keyfobs with a frunk button for remote release. Because it's an accident waiting to happen...

There is zero difference mechanically between '21J1 frunk hardware and wiring and later cars. It's just a software patch that Ford have already made available in FDRS (BCM, GFM updates and a software tool to enable the button in Sync)......There is NO reason this can't be the subject of a Customer Satisfaction Program to enable this function during the next routine service appointment.

Since you're relying on the kindness of your dealer for doing the updates for free, I don't think "demanding" is the best tactic.

But it’s aggravating because it should be so easy to fix and yet, Ford does not, whether intentionally or by neglect. Emblematic of a bigger problem - that’s what annoys me.

There is no frunk module. It's controlled by the BCM. I had mine updated and there's still no screen control or fordpass control. Only the door code.
Nope. It's called the GFM in a Mach-E. And it does control the electrical release and interfaces with the BCM over the CAN bus.

Update from Ford Customer Service - as a goodwill gesture they have given me a voucher to pay for the next 2 year dealer service - yaay that’s a result. They will also keep an eye out for updates and will notify me whEn they are about to be released in the UK. Thank you Ford Customer Service.

A dealer update many of us got for something (details in other threads) quietly updates the module that controls much of this.

With that done, the door keypad will work as shown in the owners manual for Job 2 - Enter the unlock code and then the 9-0 button twice (I think, I just do it by memory) and the frunk electric opener will activate.

With that working your could activate the button on the Sync screen with Forescan, if you were so inclined and equipped.

Then all that you's need is ford to fix your fordpass instance so it will show the button that is already in the app and available to everyone but the job 1 owners who went out ona limb as early adopters on the promise of OTA catch-ups.

Or, you know, maybe the company that took your money on the promise of delivering, might deliver. On the possibility of that actually happening, see also "Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin."

It's the 7-8 button, and you only have to hit it once after entering your code.

It’s not happening. Not now, not ever. Jim Farley has stated several times the feature would be coming by (insert date here), yet it’s never showed up. Ford’s actions speaks loud and clear, they couldn’t possibly care less about the frunks on job 1 cars. We bought the cars with a manual release, that’s the way it’s going to stay.
What is all the fuss about on the frunk.
It can be opened from inside mechanically, and electrically from the keypad on the door. Maybe it should be on Fordpass, but it's not a big problem.

I dont have ANY electronic release. My only release method is mechanical. Sometimes when its raining and my hands are full, I want to be able to pop it from the store, run out, and open it to put stuff away. Also, not to mention every ev has this feature and Ford promised it to their loyal, day 1 customers. We just feel like we are being left behind. It shouldnt be that hard.

Not on 2021 Job1 cars. They only have a mechanical release. There is a routine in FDRS that enables the screen button and updating the BCM and GFM software manually using FDRS does enable the electronic release, but most dealers will charge the car owner for the time to run FDRS on these cars. The software exists. It has since the 2021 Job2 cars hit the production line. Ford needs to encapsulate it in an OTA package and push it out, then make it available in the FordPass app. ??
