Didn’t know that about the car wash, but makes sense. My infiniti G37 had warped rotors at 60k, but those brakes were used hard. Replaced them myself, wasn’t too bad. Using 1PD / blended braking it’s hard to imagine just braking causing warped rotors. I have never had our MachE through a car wash (waterless washes only). Wondering if that’s a commonality.

Resurfaced “many times?”

That seems a bit crazy especially considering how little we use the friction brakes in these cars. I would expect the rotors to last significantly longer than an ICE. And I got 50-60k out of my ICE vehicles rotors.
I believe three times before I owned it, the fourth time in February this year. I have like .010 of an inch left till the minimum on the front rotors. I don’t think they’re really warping when they’re new so much as the brake material sticking to the rotor, and the dealer just turns them to knock the Material off the rotor, but it costs rotor thickness. I believe mine are warped because they’re so thin at this point. If they’re not warped, at this point, it’s pad material stuck to it and they will kill them off when they try to turn them again or tell me I just need new ones.

I took mine for a second opinion and they said if they resurfaced them again it would be less than min, I only had it done once but also the previous dealership I don't care for maybe took too much off idk

For the OP- I have warped rotors in the past either by driving through puddles or washing my car when the brakes were still hot.

They don't and here is why. This is an excerpt from Car & Driver on why brake pads and rotors on EVs don't last as long versus their ICE counter parts.

Those exact Motorcraft numbers are $113.79 and $44.79, respectively on RockAuto.
They may be Motorcraft #’s, but not made by Motorcraft! Bill P

I believe R1 concepts are a line from DFC. which make decent pads in my experience (bought some for a BMW before this).

I don't see any reason to go with anything special...I'd just buy these if I were you and DIY. It's an incredibly easy job...the hardest part is compressing the pads.

Also, if you have a GT, you can just disable all the traction control options (long hold the traction button) and you don't need to go into neutral to discontinue regen on brake pedal application. It will use friction brakes and you can complete a full drive cycle if you want using real brakes.

Good to know!

I have been doing the neutral braking whenever my rotors get rusty. I’ll try this out instead.

Is there an option for this on non-GT vehicles?

So I'm thinking of diy with loaner tools from AutoZone, I have a 2 1/4 ton jack will that be enough to do each wheel one by one I ordered the pads for jacks??

Put the jack stand just to the rear of the front jack point. I bought some rubber covers for my stands from harbor freight so they can go right up against the rail there.

As for Jack I wouldn't want to use less than a 3 ton personally.

  • Our 4X has seen well over a dozen high speed braking events from 100+mph to say 60mph.
  • I frequently run it through a local touchless wash when it’s 100+F outside and I don’t want to wash it myself.
  • We use 1pd exclusively but we do exercise the friction brakes on a daily basis.

35.5K miles on the OEM FoMoCo rotors/pads and no issues at all, rotor surfaces look great and no vibration during braking at all. Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t the OEM front rotors sourced from Brembo along with the Brembo Flexira calipers and pads? I believe Brembo supplies the entire corner assemblies these days.

I know my SS Sedan has OEM Brembo rotors to go with its Brembo calipers and Brembo spec very aggressive Ferrodo pads.

You don’t need special pads, just lift it up on the correct rail. Hockey pucks work great if you want a little more clearance from the plastics.
i will lift before the jack point and put the jackstand on the jack point. That rail is solid, you won’t have any issues.

stuck brake pads destroyed my rotors. They are grooved like crazy. I’m still running ‘em, I use 1PD so I don’t care about the other occasional vibration.

There was several variations on the rotors in 3 years. Part numbers replaced part numbers. But as far as I can tell they’re the same. I also can’t find how thick they are to start but I have the min number around in one of my posts. Sadly as 1 member found out, using the brake procedure can be tricky to get out of. He’s still stuck with all 4 wheels clamped in his garage as the process won’t let go.
