GTPE All Season and Summer Tires

I live in Charlotte NC and currently have summer tires on my GTPE. We don’t get much snow here so I was thinking about swapping them to all seasons for the winter. Is it worth swapping them back to summer when it starts to warm back up, or just run all season tires year round?

Great that you're swapping them. Many don't realize that they cannot be used below 45 degrees and that they cannot be stored below 20 degrees.

As to putting them back on for the summer, those tires were selected because they stick, i.e. during rapid acceleration you get the full HP without them losing grip. There's a video of Jay Leno and a Ford guy driving around and they specifically talk about this.

While using the all seasons, see how much you experience losing grip in rapid acceleration. My guess will be not often.

Personally, I would run all season. That’s what I’ve done all my life and never had an issue.

Sorry, misunderstood your question. If you get a really good ultra high performance all season tire, you will have most of that grip you have now on your summer tires but will be able to use them in the winter.

My suggestion for the best performance all season is the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4. I am personally running Pirelli P Zero All Season's as they are smoother and quieter than the Michelin's but give up some on the performance end of it. The ones I am running are also EV specific so they have a low rolling resistance. The new Hankook iON EV tires are supposed to be really good.

Bottom line, for normal driving, if you get a good performing all season tire, I don't feel you need to change back to your summer tires.

Pirelli's P Zero All Season Plus ELECT is there highest performing all season tire. While it is in the same class as the Pilot Sport All Season 4, Michelin does not offer at this time an EV specific Ultra high performance all season so Pirelli has that going for them. Also the Pirelli tire has their acoustic foam sound treatment inside this tire which makes it quieter. I can also tell you from experience the Pirelli rides smoother than the Michelin. Again, between the two, the Michelin will out perform the Pirelli in handling and steering feel if that is your top priority.

I have a '23 GTPE with 3K miles which came with Pirelli P Zeros. Don't drive in a way that the performance type tire is needed. Tires not wearing very well, so I guess maybe would get 10K miles out of them(?). So with the discounts on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4s I switched them out last week. I found the ride significantly improved as well as not as much road noise. The range reduction, if any, for my type of local driving, is not a factor. I really wanted the all temp capability and got that plus the better ride and less tire noise. Since I drive the car only about 5K miles/year, I now don't probably have to buy tires again for this car. Expect 35-45K tire life. Wear factor 540 for the Michelins vs 280 for the Pirellis.

I’m over in the Triangle and have been running the Pirelli P Zero All Seasons (non-EV version) in the wintertime since I got my GTPE in 2021. They are a great tire, but I do notice a downgrade in grip and handling. I’ve continued to switch back to the summer tires, figuring I’ll break even on them considering the cost of switching them twice a year vs. just getting rid of them. When they wear out, I’ll be torn on the decision of just running all seasons all year or dealing with the switchover for the additional summer grip.

The original tires ware out before 10000 miles. I changed to a set recommended for the Mach e and everything about them is better. I don’t notice any reduction in grip and the comfort, noise and wet weather performance is great. I live in Atlanta and Costco did a great job putting them on.

I definitely noticed a change in grip with the switch from Summer to All Seasons. All Seasons still apply a big grin to my face and are more practical in general. I have kids. Reality says I can’t drive like a hoonigan all the time, so All Seasons it is. I don’t have time to make the switch seasonally versus other things. Also, there isn’t an MME jail you go to if you don’t switch. You might lose some Internet points though. ?
