PSA: Once your Mustang Mach-E has undergone the HVBJB replacement procedure (as mine has) you will be required to perform a systems check to ensure the new contactors can adequately handle excessive heat under load.

To perform the system check, follow these steps precisely:

  1. Get into your Mach-E and start the vehicle
  2. Drive out onto an open road
  3. Find a stretch of road or highway with at least a mile of open lane before you
  4. FLOOR THAT BIOTCH!
Because HVBJB failure is not likely to occur during a single WOT event, it is recommend you perform the four steps above regularly.

Side effects of this test include, glee, giggling like a school girl, involuntary curling up of the mouth at the corners. Also note that, at this time, we are still working at getting law enforcement to sign off on this test. We are confident we can gain its support. However, until such support has been officially sanctioned, it is advised not to perform this test in front of any vehicle marked "police".

This PSA has been brought to you by the Ford Mustang Mach-E Forums.

Today, my dealer, Krieger Ford, Columbus Ohio, informed me that I had to wait for a letter from Ford before they could schedule the repairs. If done before January 2024. After January they will no longer be an EV approved Ford service dealer and will not work on any MME! Can anyone confirm this? Is Ford aware of this?
This was forecast back in Oct 22 when ford decided to make dealers either Ford Oval, EV, or Truck with the related requirements. The cost to be EV is quite high as not only the special service equipment, but also level 3 chargers. Just the battery lift equipment is costly. Add on that a certified EV tech. Dealer has to pay for off site training. My tech was shared between 3 locations. He has since moved on as well as the service manager. It's a rough world in the EV service industry right now. Total cost to be EV can be 2 to 3 hundred thousand dollars. How long does it take to recoup that?

So your car would have the original HVBJB before the change to an updated part in May 2022. You will now get the latest HVBJB version that fits your car. Has the replacement happened yet? I would be curious what the part # is for your new HVBJB. The good news about the failure is that your Select will get a new HVBJB when others won't because they are not included in the recall.

Right. I searched my VIN and it is not included. The good news was the part was available and they got it done in 3 days. I arrived at the dealership Monday around 1:30pm. The part arrived Tuesday, and it was finished by Wednesday at 6 pm. Ford roadside assistance is a joke though. It took 4 hrs for a tow truck to arrive. Then since I was 100+ miles away from home they were supposed to provide a rental/loaner/hotel assistance. That didn't happen. I am in the process of figuring out if the reimbursement will come through for all of my Lyft costs and missed work pay. I will update what happens. They said to give them 3-5 business days.

Pro tip: There is a specific Ford EV customer service department. So if you have to deal with customer service try to get to that department. Also roadside assistance will tow you and maybe send you a $30 Lyft voucher. Then you are on your own and have to fight for reimbursement later.

Received an email from Ford today that I have an open service action. When the HVBJB recall was announced, my car was listed in the recall through VIN search - GTPE that had already received the new version of the HVBJB twice. As of today, I no longer have the recall listed for my car. I assume this means that the HVBJB v.2 is Ford’s solution to the recall and has not designed a HVBJB v.3. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

I received an e-mail today too. It states I still have the original recall open and the current recall. I am still on the original HVBJB. I did in fact never have the first recall applied but was informed that subsequent OTA’s had updated all of the affected modals. The current recall still states awaiting parts from Ford. The Ford letter to the NHTSA stated letters would start going out to owners Oct 30th but I have seen or heard nothing. Some people believe there will be a new further updated part for the recall but I personally do not think that; however, time will tell.

FYI, the recall replacement 23S56 has just been removed from many vehicles that have had the HVBJB replaced once already.

This would indicate that vehicles that already had the HVBJB replaced since the first recall will not need another replacement.

Which is great news for those of us that had the repair with the new part already!

You will only need a recall replacement if you are still on the original HVBJB.

Same here. If I run my old VIN now that had the latest remanufactured HVBJB installed several months ago, it no longer shows the open recall for the HVBJB. Since it is a 2021 4x, it originally showed the recall, but now it shows clear.

Not sure why this is great news, they are still breaking, although at a slower rate.

I would be happier with a permanent solution. Ok, I know nothing is permanent but still.

edit: the only benefit is that less people will need the new part and make it a bit easier for the remaining people to get a better part installed. They still need to fix this issue on a more permanent basis.

That settles the thought some people had that there was a new iteration of the HVBJB.

Heh, it was more of a hope for me than a thought. I pretty much didn’t think there was going to be a new iteration. ??

The dealer just called me and told me I’m screwed. They confirmed its an issue with the junction box and that there is a recall on it. They said there isn't a fix for it yet though so right now there is nothing they can do. Basically my car is a paperweight until then.

2021 Mach e GT 23,000 miles purchased in January of 2022 so I don’t think I can go the lemon law route.
