Ford stockpiling thousands of new F-150 pickups near Metro Airport
Phoebe Wall Howard
Detroit Free Press

Ford is conducting final quality checks on thousands of early-production F-150 pickups that are stockpiled in lots around Metro Airport as dealers clamor for deliveries of America’s best-selling truck.
Ford factory employees at the Dearborn Truck Plant have been working to meet an insatiable demand for the 2021 F-150. That meant Ford had to build trucks while the prototypes were still being driven as test models.
Those trucks from the early build make up the stockpile of vehicles that are plain to see parked near the airport lately, and they are undergoing a final assessment, according to Ford. New F-150s coming out of the factory in recent weeks have been loaded directly with no delay onto truck haulers and trains to go to dealerships around the country, Ford said.
Yep... they're storing them around Dearborn. I ran out to pick up some take-out food the other day and one of the Ford Land properties is completely parked up with them.

In other news, I had to get a part replaced on one of my 3D printers. It shipped USPS Priority Mail. It shipped out last week on Monday morning with a delivery date of Friday. It's now 1 week late and has no status other than it left the original city (and it took four days before it left ... this is after the post office had the package). USPS has a banner on their page about unprecedented mail volumes and limited employee availability due to COVID-19. Everything is running late.

Hey, Texas has some redeeming qualities too, I'm sure.

(If anyone is offended feel free to insert a different state name instead of Texas such that you find it funny).
As a NON Native Texan I'm chuckling at this.

That's understandable but a little communication from Ford would be greatly appreciated.
I totally agree with you on this. It would end all the speculation and theories on this thread (maybe that's a bad thing ? ). Thank God for Trutolife27 in at least we have some indirect communication (explanation).

@trutolife27 has an insider's view, and is the one that's been feeding us correct information for months. Presumably the rail cars they had allocated for a november 23rd shipment were reallocated by the shipper elsewhere instead of having them sit there idle for the minor QC issue to get straightened out, and now they can't get them back. The rail cars aren't owned by Ford, so the best they can do is bribe and threaten to get them back, but they don't have a lot of leverage:
I didn't see anywhere that the reason given by Trutolife27 that they're having trouble getting trains is because they (the railroads) became PO'd about QC issues and picked up their marbles and went elsewhere. He said it was related to the pandemic and the effects of that on everything. Maybe I missed it and if so then I'm sorry. I would think if Ford is having trouble shipping their cars the other auto makers would be in the same boat.

Maybe. Sometimes its give an inch take a mile I think. It doesn't matter how much info Ford communicates someone will be unhappy. Sometimes Ford does give information and people complain about the information they got; sometimes its just better to keep your trap shut.

No lie: without this forum I might have given up waiting. I know things are happening and why because of here.

That says a lot about Ford communications as much as anything else.

I don't think I would have canceled (in fact I might have saved $3600 but not switching to a MachDrop), but this forum has been invaluable for giving me a "project" to pass a ton of time this year where it was really needed. I'll likely have spent more time having fun in this forum than I will in actually driving the car for the next decade.

They are. Everywhere. Consider the case of the one manufacturer that has a vehicle in direct competition with the mach-e, Tesla. There's a reason they've asked employees about to be furloughed to volunteer with help in making deliveries. They're not putting them out front at the Fremont plant so more people can pick their cars up, nor are they handing them the keys to a big-rig with a load of cars. Some are literally driving the cars to customers a state or two (and more) away. It's not better elsewhere. There is a pandemic. Ford isn't unique and neither is our wait.

People are sick, over 250,000 new cases in the last 7 days in California alone. Almost 18,000 new cases in Nevada where I live. Every business is impacted and short-staffed. And there is a shortage of railroad cars and trucks that can haul new cars anyway.

Any chance you can get SAR imagery so we can get an idea of production in the plant?
Sorry. SAR isn't Maxar's thing. Plus SAR resolution from commercial satellites typically isn't good enough for discerning the kind of detail you would need to accurately determine inside production.
