Ford has initiated a harvest parts program for battery modules in certain 2021-2023 Mach-E and E-Transit vehicles. Battery modules are sets of battery cells inside the main battery pack. This is a voluntary program, and only specific battery modules in specific vehicles will be identified by Ford for harvest. If Ford is interested in your vehicle, they will contact you about a repair. I have no information about the reason for this program.

NOTE: This is not a recall.

Can't imagine the incentive they would offer for this.

I don't recall seeing the term "Harvest Program". Is it the same as a recall?

No.

Recalls are safety related.

This is clearly a voluntary program where Ford wants to study battery modules. You could easily say No.

During a HVBJB recall job, this would probably be an easy thing to agree to. I would not agree otherwise.

So we just happily let them tear apart our car, steal some parts, swap in some new ones? I mean why not I suppose. My car is in that timeline, maybe I will get the call.

Odds are, you won't. Look at the date ranges. Seems to be all 2021s, all 2022s, and many 2023s.

Wonder if they swap the whole pack, or just pull a few modules and replace those. Although I havent heard of that happening, or if it is possible.

Clearly stated in original post... R&R modules.

Finally, my 11/13/20 build date might be of use.
If they are interested in an early-build well-used First Edition, I’m going to accommodate them.

A free extended warranty is my price.

You get a brand new battery pack in the process. That's a pretty good benefit right there.

Ford did this in the Lightning last year. Now there's a CSP to install new battery monitoring software (BECM) and identify, then R&R bad battery modules.

Whether this is just research or the sign of a suspicion of a problem is hard to say.

It’s not the whole battery pack. It’s just a module, which according to the technical document is two “arrays” That’s a one sixth of the battery pack.

I’d happily trade my ‘21 GT pack with 97% SoH for a new ‘24 pack.

What I think I need to do some research on is what is the effects of mixing batteries with various SOH? Maybe no issue at all. If I were an owner who has driven many miles I might be interested in getting this SOH boost.

I think the answer is "it depends". It looks like it could be replacing all of the modules:

NOTE: For extended-range batteries, the fifth row may need to be removed if all of the affected SN are not found within the visible 5 rows and inspection of the fifth lower is needed. Follow the WSM procedures in Section 414-03A.

I'd be happier to have Ford give me a brand new pack than have a tech pulling and replacing modules.
