I think the answer is "it depends". It looks like it could be replacing all of the modules:

NOTE: For extended-range batteries, the fifth row may need to be removed if all of the affected SN are not found within the visible 5 rows and inspection of the fifth lower is needed. Follow the WSM procedures in Section 414-03A.

I'd be happier to have Ford give me a brand new pack than have a tech pulling and replacing modules.
I had yet to see companies relacing modules, just replacing whole packs. Its why I was curious if that can be done on the Mach-e, I had read and assumed it could, but will be nice to see it in practice.

They can take any part of my car they want. In fact, they can void my Options lease at any time and harvest whatever they want from it.

Hit me up, Ford.

Ford has been replacing modules on Lightnings for months.

I think this means that in order to inspect (see the stickers) the 5th row lower modules they may need to temporarily remove the 5th row upper modules that are only present on extended range batteries.

True but language elsewhere uses that language like “all of the affected SN“. My point is if you are “lucky” enough to have 6 matching SNs, you might win the battery lottery and get all 6 replaced. You may know until after they dig in, though.

Better go and get some PowerBall tickets if that happens. ?

I agree with you it's possible, but not probable.

  • Glass half-empty: They're concerned about something and trying to learn more and get ahead of it
  • Glass half-full: They're trying to make things better long-term through real-world sampling and research
Either way, it's a positive, but an invasive one. It'll be interesting to see the customer letter once someone receives it.

The specificity of dates is interesting - I doubt there's a different in batteries between November 11th, 2021, and January 4th, 2022, especially given demand for the MME back in the day.

Assuming it's just to bracket sample sets, but a gap of ~2 months of "research" scope is interesting.

I think those gaps were the months production was shut down.

Interesting as my build date is just outside this window at November 28, 2021.

Wonder if they swap the whole pack, or just pull a few modules and replace those. Although I havent heard of that happening, or if it is possible.
Ask me , Since most of us early owners “are in the recall “ the whole pack would make more sense 22 mach rwd std

Maybe, but why bother explaining and illustrating the distinction between modules and arrays if you’re just gonna swap the whole thing? It seems to me that they’re singling out some specific subset of modules for testing purposes.

As to not wanting them to mess with stuff, based on my HVBJB recall progress, I’m with you on that.
