My 22 select is half way to 3 years mark. It calls for a brake fluid change in the third year regardless of her mileage. Has anyone out there done that? I wonder if it’s something can be DIYed.

Think you need to do it with diagnostic tool, I can do it but happy to allow dealer do it so there’s absolutely no risk of any problems with warranty or any arguments. Just paid up and looked happy?

TBF, didn’t cost enough to make it worth doing myself??‍♂

Maintenance schedule clearly says every 3 years, yes.

You can if you're really careful not to let the reservoir level drop and have it suck in air.

Pumping the pedal is going to be really weird because it will only pump fluid during the second half of the pedal stroke.

I assume you've changed brake fluid before so you know the basics?

It's not as humid here, so I'm not going to do mine until year 4.

I… accidentally did this once. Only way to complete the process is with FDRS. Had to drive it to the dealer on pure regen braking. Not recommmended for at home.
In the workshop manual, the entire section on changing brake fluid reads: Attach to diagnostic computer. Run FDRS. Follow prompts.

^^^ THIS ^^^

I'm fairly handy and have changed brake lines and have gravity-bled car and motorcycle brakes. On this car, when I secured some stainless steel braided brake lines, I thought about it and took it to a Ford shop... and I'm glad I did. I had a FDRS license then as well, but I learned the best way is with a Ford shop pressurizing tool which is much $$$$.

I do it on my motorcycles. But that’s easy to bleed. The lever and caliper are close enough for me to reach. ?

I have been bleeding/changing that for years, but not sure if Mach e is any different than ICE.

Unfortunately I think the MME needs to have the diag tool to put the car through the bleed process - most likely controls small things here and there with sensors.

German brands has been doing this nonsense for ages.

My older cars I just hook up my pneumatic brake bleeder and it's a breeze. It's too bad you can't do that with the MME it seems.

Anyone think warranty will think it is sufficient to just use a brake fluid tester tool and take a picture that it is still good? Pic will have meta data of time/location of course.

I am not looking forward to having this done. I usually do my own garbage stuff like this but even though I have a Mongoose and FDRS I think I am going to have to find an excise to go back to the dealer from whom i bought my car (I hate the dealers closest to me). ?‍♂?

I’m surprised so many owners change break fluid in their cars at 3 yrs. With 1PD and regen the brakes hardly get used.

Maybe the 3 yr recommendation is so the Options purchasers can get dinged if they turn the MME in at 3 yrs.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air. Over time, the water content increases, which reduces the fluid's boiling point and increases the possibility of rust in the system. This happens even if the vehicles is parked unused, so the brake fluid need to be changed based on time rather than miles. If you do not change your brake fluid, you can end up with brake fade from the fluid boiling, or have trouble with seized brake components due to corrosion. This is why the fluid needs to be changed every X years regardless of miles. Most car owners have no idea they're supposed to change their brake fluid periodically.

I have a brake fluid moisture tester, and it usually indicates I need a fluid change after 4-5 years. In a very humid place like Florida you probably should do it every 3 years as prescribed.
