Within a 3-4 hour driving radius of metro Pittsburgh, there are about 4 or 5 NACS stations I could possibly use in my normal road trip scenarios. This will definitely take some pressure off in winter time driving as there are currently some dead zones without any DCFC opportunities until the NEVI Award designated locations start to populate the landscape. Those latter sites are seemingly taking most of this calendar year to become realized, and with my NACS adapter on the shipping schedule for June I likely will not see much difference in my road tripping planning until the second half of this year in all likelihood. I will welcome the improvements in infrastructure/compatibility, and will continue to have a measure of patience for it to arrive.
I live in Pgh too and WV is the issue with any Southern trip. The Tesla Superchargers in Weston WV are V2 and unusable even with the adapter. There is a single CCS DCFC in Summersville and I haven't figured out a way to not use it. When it's down, that path isn't useable.

As I think about it, I might look at what restaurants are available walking distance from CCS1 vs NACS sites as the primary determinant.
lol...I keep an electric scooter in my EV for charging sessions..

Only when there is no other readily available alternative.
so you would pay more money at a different charger than use the Tesla one?

I only DCFC 8-10 times a year.

I like the idea of having the adapter for flexibility but I am not sure how often it will actually be used.

When I first got the car I bought a level 2 adapter so I could charge at Tesla destination chargers. I have used that adapter twice.
I bought a 'TeslaTap' destination charger in case I overnight anywhere that has only a Tesla L2.... haven't used it yet, but it's stored in my car just in case.

I look forward to the NACS, but am unsure how often I'll need it. I took my first multi-day trip last year after 3 years of ownership, and had no problems with availability of CCS chargers along my route between NM and CO. But, I do know there are a couple Tesla sites along the way I may need to use on future trips thru Northern NM and Southern CO.

So, I dunno if I would buy one, but I sure will accept a free one 'whenever' it gets delivered.

I only plan to use the adapter when the options are limited. This will be exclusively when I'm traveling beyond the greater Bay Area as I charge at home.

My long-distance trips are LA and soon Pacific North West. There are certainly times where the options available to me were broken and going to a Tesla supercharger across the way would have saved me an hour or two (and one tow ride in 2021). Given the choice between a working EA and Tesla, I'll still go to the EA. Then discover the all EA stations are broken/occupied and drive to the Tesla stations.

Only exception is that once I have the adapter, I will do a test charge locally to both learn the process and confirm the adapter works. Wouldn't want to figure out I had a defective part while on the road!

I have fast charged once, will probably never again. L2 home charging only.

Well not plentiful but they did add a few last year. I have noticed they are very spotty as to working or not. We will be driving the route this summer so I will get a feel for it. The NEVI sites north of Cantwell should go in this summer. Not so sure about those south. Next steps will be communities off the main corridor so Delta, Tok, Glenallen, Palmer should be high on the list. Of course Tok does not have much of a power grid. Some of the units that have been approved for NEVI are battery storage so low demand. That will work well for Tok.
I kind of feel for Tok because I get that their level of service can't be the best, but it's really a crucial stop. It's got enough accommodation to be a natural overnight break, and it's also roughly halfway between Beaver Creek on the Canadian border and Glenallen. It's a serious gap.

Yes, a battery-powered solution (like Freewire) makes sense in a LOT of remote locations and I'm sure it minimizes the disruption to the local grid. Also makes solar more practical. I get that people laugh when you talk about solar-powered chargers in the north but we get a BOATLOAD of sunshine in the summer...

But Superchargers are too fast for a proper meal. If you really want to enjoy your meal you need to find a slower charger, 50kw seems about right for a good meal. Unless you want to eat at Allen & Wright.

Yeah, I don't get people leaving the car at the fast charger and eating any meal. Then again, we pack our food and eat while charging. Fast food isn't a meal to me.

In Edmonton AB there's an Electrify Canada station near my relative's home that has been basically complete for more than 6 months yet it *still* is not open for charging. There is a Tesla SC station in the same parking lot though. The question is, will I get my NACS adapter first (ships in June) or will Electrify Canada finally get their act together and open the station?

For my next trip I was going to try to hack a 240V plug onto my relatives house, or buy the Quick220 device to be able to hack it with two 120V extension cords. But it looks like by the time June is over, one way or another, I won't need to use the home's electricity at all.

Don't forget that an unattended charge could result in your adapter being stolen.
