I didn't know you can become a "Tesla Member". I will need to look into that. I am always looking for a cheaper charging spot while I am out driving Lyft.
For $12.99 you can be a Tesla member and get the rates Tesla drivers pay.

For 2 charges a month, I'd break even on the monthly membership fee.

The only caveat is that you can not use P&C.

Have to use the Tesla app to get the discounted member rate.

Another reason to use Tesla SC: my home electricity prices are almost twice that of paying Tesla !

Tesla membership rate is $0.34 during peak time!

As a homeowner with Level 2 installed, I will rarely need to use the NACS adapter, except when traveling more than 150 miles from my home. I probably only do that like 3-5 times per year. Each trip I can for see stopping at Tesla chargers 1-2 times. Many of the supercharger locations I would actually use seem to still be Tesla only.

I charge at home 95% of the time. It will come in handy when visiting out of town relatives that don't have L2 charging, and for road trips. Realistically might need it 4-6 times per year, but not much more than that. Also have to burn through my 250kWh of free EA charging that came with the new '23 GT - ideally first...but depends on EA reliability and availability.

I am in LA and my special off peak rate is 0.16 per kWh after 9pm.

but that is a great rate. I get close to that with EVgo with Lyft Platinum discounts. But would love a second option. Once my adapter gets here I’ll sign up. Can write off the membership fee lol

I will probably use the Tesla SC network most of the time when I'm on road trips, mainly because they're much more reliable and in more convenient locations. I'll opt for the Tesla membership that month and take advantage of the lower rate.

When on long road trips, I'm still seeing near-empty Tesla SC stalls and full (or non-functional or throttled) EA stalls. I'll happily bypass EA and head straight to Tesla, thankyouverymuch.

Definitely when driving through Wisconsin. The Tomah EA is awful…lines, folks charging to 100%, etc. There is a Tesla one not far from there. Unfortunately, there are no SC stations open to us in Chicagoland. As others have mentioned, I’ll try it out close to home to be sure it works before my next road trip. I have used the destination adapter in Minnesota. Options are a good thing.
I have family in northern Wisconsin, and I've had miserable experiences driving my Mach E and i4 up there (even in the summer). I can't wait to have additional charging options in the northern half of the state. That, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which is a CCS desert.

It depends, I travel through Wisconsin and will try to avoid Tesla chargers whenever possible. They charge about $1 per minute so it would be very expensive

Where would that be the case?
well, you said " Only when there is no other readily available alternative." So if the EA station was nearby and more expensive your statement makes it sound as if you would go there instead. I didn't know if you were an Elon hater or what?

I would use EA every time over Tesla if it was an available choice regardless of cost.

Probably never lol.

I loathe to road trip with the Mach-E and while my Bronco is not exactly quiet nor comfortable for anything over an hour... it is a vastly better choice.

kdonnel: If you don't mind, where in TN are you going? I live in West TN but travel a lot to East TN to see my family; I might be able to provide some real world information on the ChargePoint chargers you mentioned in your original post. I use I-40 route and a backroads route through some small towns. Hope you have a good time visiting TN.
Tennessee is a great state. I just returned from a Virginia - Georgia - Kentucky - Virginia camping trip - we stayed at Tennesee's awesome Harrison Bay State Park just NE of Chattanooga for one night where (of course) I recharged the car via the RV 14-50 plug while we slept.

You need to look at the amount you get per minute to figure out if it's expensive, or just inline with the per kWh rates.

Do you charge to 100% when you’re driving Lyft?

I've had mostly good luck at Tomah. I only encountered a line one time, and the wait wasn't long. I did note that there is a Tesla station just across the road with lots of chargers and no one using them.

I charge exclusively at home or on the free charger at my local grocery store while I'm shopping, so the only time I'll use the adapter is on a road trip where I won't be returning home to charge. This will most often be when I go down to Madison, WI to visit my son at UW-Madison.
