Stop Safely Now - Electronics Failure

I posted this on Reddit but was told I might get more information here.

So last weekend my 2021 Mach-E stopped working while I was driving it. I was driving on a normal main road and my car flashed a warning telling me to stop safely immediately and that there was a Powertrain malfunction. After pulling over, the car went into a sort of lock-down mode and couldn't be taken out of park or moved. While waiting on a tow, the car slowly shutdown various electronics and eventually would not turn on, and the doors could only be opened manually.

The car has been at the dealer since then and they are having trouble diagnosing the problem or even moving the car around in their lot. My car has over 40K miles on it so it is outside the limited warranty, but I figured if it is the HVBJB issue I have heard about, it would be covered by the recall.

For anyone with experience, does this sound like what happens when the HVBJB fails or do you have any other ideas what could be going on? The dealership said that they read the codes from the car and that they aren't the HVBJB codes but idk if they have really experienced this problem before. I'm really nervous that this failure will somehow be deemed outside the Powertrain or EV specific parts warranties that my car still falls under and that it will be out of commission for a long time since the dealer is having such trouble with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

EV powertrain warranty should be 8 years and 100k miles. Not an expert but you should be covered.

Sounds like a classic HVBJB failure. You’ll be under full warranty. Review the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that the dealer has for this issue and read the first post on the explainer thread at the link below.

If your vehicle is on the recall list then the HVBJB needs to be replaced either way. Sounds to me like low 12V battery. Does that mean HVBJB I do not know. There is a thread where you can share your VIN and they will look up your error codes.

Do you have access to a code reader? Of course, if you can’t get it to boot up enough to engage the OBD, you will need someon with access to PTS to try to look up your VIN. @Mike G or @rugedraw can help with that. ??

I will add, the dealership said they pulled some codes and that it wasn't the codes for the HVBJB recall but they don't seem to have a lot of experience with these kinds of issues and they have yet to even pull the car into their service center since the car is dead.

Oh, and for awareness, Ford did authorize a rental car but only for 5 days. They said they can't authorize for any longer without the official diagnosis from the dealership which is taking some time.

They scanned it already on Monday and should have a diagnosis. You had a P0AA5 code in the BECM (negative contactor stuck open), which means your HVBJB has failed and needs to be replaced. The dealer should perform the procedure outlined in TSB 24-2017.

Print that TSB, hi-light that code, and hand it to your service advisor. Tell them it says you need a the high voltage battery junction box replaced because you have that code.

It's amazing how many times I have read on this, the Gen14 F150, and Lightning forum, that the factory authorized service department said one thing and yet the cloud (PTS/Oasis/FDRS) says differently.

I mean the code(s) your car recorded to the cloud was clearly regarding the well documented (By Ford on behalf of the factory authorized technicians) issue with the HVJB. Yet they said it isn't?

They see 25+ codes on the scan tool and have no clue which one is the important one that represents the root cause. It's just information overload for them. They don't want to research all of them. I know what to look for so it's easy for me to interpret codes, but they probably just lack experience and familiarity with Mach-E.

This is a good example of the difference between data vs information.

Yeah, I think the other problem is the dealer only has one guy who works on/knows what he is doing with electric vehicles. It's pretty clear they don't know what to look for or don't have enough time to look at all the codes.
