Are OTA updates separate from FDRS updates? Just reading through other peoples posts in here. I did all the SW Updates in FDRS a couple weeks ago and now I have 6.3.0 showing Not Completed:

Smart Changes
Refinements have been made to help improve connectivity.
First noticed it on Monday and have driven every day since but doesn't seem to do anything. 3FMTK4SX1PMA37005
OTAs are selected software updates that are by-and-large (but not always) a subset of already available updates listed in FDRS that are chosen to be pushed out over the air to unsuspecting vehicles.

I have had OTAs in the queue and chosen to update via FDRS anyway...and then had a message saying that such-and-such didn't complete even though it was actually done with FDRS and is the same update.

If you have a dealer that uses FDRS to apply every single update in your FDRS list...well then it's likely you might not see an OTA for a while...because you got caught up with FDRS.

Hi new user and owner from Denmark here.
we have an early 2023 RWD ER and we had our last update in march.
the Vin is: WF0TK3R72PMA59157
Can any of you kind people see if something is wrong since I’m not seeming to get any newer updates.
Your car was fully updated with FDRS in March and is only showing a few poweretrain updates available. You are not getting updates because you do not have any updates needing to be sent.

Can somebody please check my updates ?
Same as above, except you car was updated in February.

That's because you did that update already when you used FDRS. The OTA server is not directly linked to the FDRS one, so it failed because there was nothing to install. That OTA brings the TCU strategy to -GE and you car is already on it. You have no updates pending.

Same song, fourth verse...

Trying another dealership this week and curious if anyone would mind checking FDRS for 3FMTK3SU6MMA03153 before I head over to chat with them?
What do you need checked?

I don't know what you're having problems with specifically...but here's your list of available updates from PTS:

If it was me I'd be telling the service advisor things like "I'm having issue with PAAK, and my car not recognizing me when I walk up to it." to get the RFA updated. And "when I get in the car with my fob..my seats and mirrors sometimes adjust to the other saved profile my significant other uses"...that should result in them updating that DSM. Or maybe "my iphone doesn't charge very well and gets really hot" so they'd update that WACM module. And maybe "my car keeps changing drive modes on me and when I use 1PD it sometimes stops working." to get them to update the powertrain modules. And "why does my audio sound scratchy sometimes and produce loud bursts of static?" to get that DSP updated.

Am I helping?

Got the dreaded “no butttons/windows working on driver door” issue this morning so I can only assume I have a ton of modules to update lol.

Got the Tesla Supercharger update so I’m at least good there!

anyone be nice enough to look into mine?

FDRS output if you can? They were supposed to be applying the HVAC update, along with a fix for intermittent BC/LC failures over the last week.
Your car has not been connected to FDRS at all recently. The codes you car is reporting in reference to your BC/LC issues are very obvious and there are specific SSMs and TSBs being referenced by the system to address the issue. I am confused as to why you have had to go to so many dealers.

You car is not reporting any codes within the door modules. You do have modules pending updates, but not for the DDM/PDM.

Thanks, the reason i asked is that i have an upcoming trip to Italy and i do want to have no issues with the one pedal driving. So if this means i need to update so be it.

Well at that time....(quite a while ago) the software dependency thing was not well understood...and to add to that there may have been instances where certain module updates would cause issues. That's still true today. And that's why he talks about referencing comments from people who have already done one or more of those updates to see if they had any issues during programming or had unwanted behaviors afterward.

But to your point...if there is an available software update listed in FDRS for the VIN you entered.....it's intended for your car, not just a random update that may or may not apply...if it's in your list...it's for your car.

I have no issues with doing 99.8% of the updates normally.

To ensure I follow the 'unwritten' dependency rules I always update any GWM, APIM, or TCU in my list first (in that order, and bearing in mind that there can be instances of back-to-back GWM updates that show up as well), and then I move on to other items like the powertrain (by selecting any one of the PCM, ABS, BECM, SOBDM, SOBDMB, SOBDMC) which will execute a scripted update of any or all of those available updates. And then anything else that I would call a 'standalone' update that only involves one particular subsystem...like the HVAC...or the RFA, etc.

I should also emphasize that you want to clear and retest any DTCs you have before staring any programming.
Thank you! You explained that very clearly, I appreciate it.

FDRS is down for me today but I can tell you looking in PTS that you have a driver's door module update available.....and what's strange is that it's the only door that needs updating. Normally the door updates are pushed out for all the doors (hatch is separate) at the same time...so how your driver's door didn't get updated before is a mystery. You can see that the other three doors are on a later revision than your driver's door. Not sure what went on there. But that is likely your problem.

Thank you so much. Can I ask if the Powertrain update are something I need to go to dealer to get done, is it needed? I’m not really sure what powertrain update is?

Powertrain are for modules that have to do with the car's drivability. See the green dots below. These updates are suspended for now as per the attached SSM, so I would not worry about them.

Good catch. I missed that one.
