Ford will be introducing another EV in Europe this summer, likely using the same powertrains as the Explorer EV. They're calling it a Coupe SUV but the rear 3/4 design makes it look like a lifted Polestar sedan.

- Range is expected to be ~ 300 miles.
- Debuting July 10
- Based on VW's MEB platform
- Capri and Explorer EVs will be similar to VW's ID.4 and ID.5

If the performance figures are similar to the Mach-E, then won't it cannibalize sales from the Mach-E?

Going off design alone, I prefer the Mach-E. Sorry Euro friends!

I’m a bit skeptical for a couple reasons.

First, I had thought Ford had said that the Explorer was the only EV they were going to build off the MEB platform, with all future EVs based off the next-gen platform.

Secondly, the license plate in this render is a Russian domain. I’m pretty sure Ford dumped their Russia operations back in 2022 in response to the Ukraine war.

1) I guess the Ford execs changed their minds? I don't find the MEB platform particularly compelling, and I didn't think the Explorer EV was selling well enough to justify a 2nd EV?

2) Haha, the render is from a Russian? artist. He/she is well known as I've seen his/her renders before.

I should have posted the original news link in my OP. Thanks dmitry for linking to it.

That ... "thing" ... is horrific-looking. I'm getting major 2002 Focus Sedan vibes ?

That thing is fugly. It looks like they asked AI to design a car that appeals to everyone but would actually appeal to no one?

That looks like it would be a shitty concept car from 15 years ago. I definitely see the Polestar 2 vibes from the rear half like mentioned (and I don't like the side profile on that car either). It's just... wow. Already feels dated by 10-15 years.

This is real.

While it might cannibalize Mach-E sales, I'm not sure how many Mach-Es Ford really wants to sell in Europe anyway. The Capri will be more attractive for Euro buyers given that it's narrower body will have an easier time navigating European backroads. Past that, it leverages the same platform as the Euro Explorer and makes it easier to maintain.

Here is a video review. Very curious to read what folks think. Would you buy this? What would you get instead?

Oh and Nicola is easy on the eyes too ?.

79 kWh battery. 71 kWh usable? Times 3.2 miles per kWh isn't anywhere near 300 miles of range. Even at 4.0 miles per kWh of efficiency isn't going to reach 300 miles.

How big is the Capri compared to a Mach E. Looks somewhat smaller, but says it's built on an Explorer platform, making it sound bigger.
