It would be nice that Tesla put up a sign at their charging stations that they have a deal between Ford and themselves lol
I saved a screen grab when Tesla officially welcomed Ford to the charging network. Might help if we ever get harassed by any Tesla owners. So far it hasn't been an issue...happy to say...
Ford Mustang Mach-E BlueOval charge network + Tesla network was amazing! IMG_1354

Around here, NH, BEV ownership is so rare, we all have to stick together. I doubt anyone will care which brands use which chargers just so long as no one is practicing poor charging etiquette (unnecessarily charging to 100%, using a faster cabinet than your car can handle, etc).

I found when we went to an EVgo station using the BlueOvalChargeNetwork on the FordPass app, the charge cost more than the published rate in the EVgo app - about 8 cents more per kwh, when divided total kwh by cost. Ergo, the next time we went, we used the EVgo app. (we don't have L2 charging installed at home yet, but soon).

Tesla is a different beast, is it even possible to use their app? And what is the upcharge for using the Ford app?

The Tesla app is great actually. If you don't add a Tesla vehicle, then its top-center function is just "Charge Your EV" and you set a filter for your model and whether you have a NACS adapter yet. Like EA, you can join a monthly membership to get a lower rate.

The price per kWh I was charged was accurate. This was just a test and I didn't want to bother with DLing yet another app on my phone just to get a discount for a 5 minute test. EVgo, Tesla, EA, and a slew of others offer a discount if you join their monthly subscription but that wasn't the point of this exercise.

I wanted to see how well it worked or even if it would work.

I know that the BlueOval Network charges more but there is something to be said for the simplicity of being able to just roll up and plug in.

For example on the rare occasions that my wife takes the Mach-E on a solo road trip she doesn't want to bother with having 8 or more different apps on her phone then try an figure out which network she is charging at then try to activate the stall she is at..... it goes on and on...

For her it is just easier to roll up, plug in, and start charging. For her using the KISS principle that the BlueOval Charge network offers is worth the extra costs associated with it.

I would use the Ford app for an oddball charger only, they are out there. I put all my EV apps in one folder on my phone's screen and have pretty much all of them that are around this part of the country already. I also put the apps on my wife's phone along with payment already integrated, so she doesn't have to mess with it.

Of course if you don't have cell signal, none of them are going to work and one had better hope the charger has a credit card reader.

A man from two cars over yelled you do not belong here. This is for Tesla only. I said I have an adapter and need to change. He walked over pointed at the station said it says Tesla! You go to your own down by Target. Obviously he was disturbed and did not want to get in an argument. Currently happily charging at EA. I’m sure this is rare but did make me feel uncomfortable
Just tell him “Those are Electrify America chargers, and this is not an Electrify America vehicle, so by your own logic I can’t charge there either.”

I didn’t really catch the bottom line on the charging fee but, holy smokes $5.30 for 9 miles of travel am I wrong here but our gas vehicles probably cheaper to travel? I had the concept that electric vehicles didn’t cost much to drive but now that I think that if you plug into your house charge or you find someplace like a hotel while you’re traveling?
$7 = 50 mi say Nissan?
He made the mistake of using a charger that had a session fee. Definitely something to avoid if you're on the road.

I am on the road right now on my first real road trip with my Mach-E and have mostly used Electrify America (still waiting on my free adapter). It ain't cheap. I did get the EA Plus Membership which is a significant savings versus plug and charge. I hadn't even thought about it, but plug and charge does charge you the full price versus getting the Plus Membership. After paying a pretty hefty price for a big charge at EA, I signed up for the Plus Membership when I realized that there was one. It paid for itself the first time I used it after that.

It's certainly true that charging at home is cheaper than paying for electricity on the road. It's pretty easy to get used to the low cost of doing that. I am fortunate that an elementary school just around the corner from my sister's house has j-1772 Chargers that I can nearly fully charge my car (13% to 100% last night for less than $12. The trade-off is that I park it there overnight and it's ready to go in the morning. Super safe neighborhood, so I'm not worried about that.

Ideally, charging at home and then finding free charging at a hotel would be the least expensive option. If however you are driving longer distances like I have been, then you're going to have to use DC fast charge at some point, and it's going to be moderately expensive, especially as compared to charging at home. I'd still rather be doing that than filling my car with gas.

I don't know why I should have to explain myself to a Tesla driver that doesn't understand that others are now able to use the system.

There is no upcharge to use the Ford app or Plug and Charge.

You likely had some type of discount with the EVGo app.

Navy for my 20 years that keep me sharp. Let’s just put it that way.
EMC (ss) (dv) when I got out after 12. I wanted to use the GI Bill and go to college before it expired in 1984, so didn't stick around for my full 20. Plus I admit I was tired of it.
