The 4.x.x series of updates is what most new 2023 owners report getting when they first get their cars. Since you bought it on 5/29, you've gotten 3 updates, so that's not bad in the grand scope of how these things work. You are on Sync 23031 which is 2-3 versions behind the latest version depending on what Ford has available for you in terms of updates. Aside from all the modules with a green dot below, you're also missing several APIM, GWM, TCU and IPC updates. So you are pretty far behind from being fully up to date.

As a new owner, try not to fall into the "I'm out of date" rabbit hole as it can ruin your ownership experience. If you're happy with your car, then enjoy it knowing there are improvements that you will eventually get.

H.U.A. I've lurked enough to grasp that 100%. Thanks man...youre the best!

... try not to fall into the "I'm out of date" rabbit hole...
Out of date? That's not the hole. It's being woefully out of date, and then finally an OTA or two starts to trickle in... and BOOM... you get frozen at "Not Complete."

That's when you start looking up TSB's to try and find ones you can use to convince the dealership to update modules... or maybe you start looking at the marketplace forums for a less expensive mongoose... And wonder if that PSU you have for a ham radio rig would work to run the car for a while...

Personally, I would never deter anyone from getting a Mongoose and doing things themselves. I will be the first to admit that I am and have always been a Ford fan-boy. If for whatever reason I were to defect and go to another brand, I would buy whatever the equivalent is to a Mongoose/FDRS for that brand immediately. With these newer vehicles, it is a necessary evil. IMO, of course.

Maybe in a year or so... I need to pay off a few other large purchases I've made recently. I think the "cost of entry" with FDRS is something like $800 (mongoose, PSU, 2-day license, taxes) and it's kind of hard to justify that right now to my wife/CFO.

At least on my car, the only things I'd really want the updates for are to fix the 2023 lift gate issue (which I could probably get the dealer to do on warranty) and to get the "public charging" app (but it's a mystery if firmware updates actually make that appear or not.)

Let me know if you want me to add you to the list to borrow one of mine. Details are below.

@Babbit was nice enough to send me an old windows laptop he had laying around to offer it to anyone who doesn't have one. I plan on testing it out within the next few days to see if it will run FDRS properly. If it does, I can provide the laptop if needed, too.

Perhaps. My wife also wanted to know what stops people from just ordering the mongoose from Amazon, using it, and returning it to Amazon. When I looked, I didn’t see ANY used mongooses (mongeese?) on Amazon.

(I answered that perhaps Mach-e owners are just more honest than others.)

I think for me, once I’ve had it, I’d want to keep it for the next update or fix. I just need to set things up so my wife experiences the liftgate issue at a bad time, then tell her how easy it would be for me to fix it with just a bit of up front money.

Looking to do an FDRS update this weekend in hopes of pulling BC 1.3.
It’s been awhile since I did an update so need to see how much time I’ll be investing.

Thanks as always!

I've noticed a terminology being used recently, "software defined vehicle", and I think it's a pretty decent capture of what you described as these newer vehicles.

I also read an article yesterday(?) about Volvo having to buy back a sizeable percentage of one of their current models because of software shortcomings. (I think it was in the UK, which from what was described has far stronger consumer protection legislation, and manufacturers have a narrower margin of error with their products not meeting expectations)

Anyways, my point being that on this forum it often feels like only Ford is struggling with the worldwide shift to software defined vehicles. Nothing could be further from the truth. And it's far from just an EV thing too.

I realize it might draw a bit of ire, but I too am a Ford fan and I'm actually amazed at how bold they have been at embracing the automotive revolution that we are witnessing. I also think it's way too easy to point out the shortcomings while ignoring the amazing progress Ford has made so quickly.

I still have a couple of Ford products that are only a decade and less old, and when I compare them to the 2022 Powerboost and the 2023.5 GTPE? It's stunning how little time has passed between the four vehicles, yet the technology leap is vast.

The whole Mongoose/FDRS option seems so practical, considering. It basically eliminates 99% of the frustrations that make up the majority of the complaints regarding our software defined vehicle.

I swear Ford should just include the Mongoose as an option, similar to the portable EVSE. ?
And the FDRS subscription should be like one of the other "connected services".

We waited about 6 months for the OTA to fix the liftgate. I believe you just got your MME so patience would be a great tool for you.

Yeah at least give registered owners a free license to FDRS. It's a bitter pill to swallow sometimes when we struggle to get OTA's but have to pay Ford $50+ to manually download and install them. Not to mention the initial investment in the Mongoose cable, PS, Laptop, etc.

I'm piecing together my setup. I bought a Mongoose cable from a member off the other Mach-e Club forum for a good price. Also bought a PC Laptop so I can run FDRS and now just need to pull the trigger on getting the PS ordered.

@rugedraw - That is very awesome of you to offer an FDRS Loaner setup for folks that want to update but aren't ready for the investment.
