Ford Mustang Mach-E What is this button above the rear-view mirror? IMG_2683 Lar

I can not figure out what this is for and I dare not press it. It's a small black button directly behind the rear-view mirror on the roof. I have convinced my kid it's an eject button. I haven't found it in any manual and it's really hard to search for "what does this button do?"

I don't think it's an actual button, I think it might be a sensor or something or maybe just a cover for a mounting boss or something? I took that whole plastic dealy off at one point and forgot to look.

As far as your kiddo is concerned though, definitely an ejection seat.

Just a guess - but I think it's a motion sensor for the security system.

So every time I park, the MME ask if I want to set the sensors, doesn't it happen automatically ?

I think the default is for it to be on but the prompt when you turn off the car is if you want to disable it (maybe you're going to sit in the car for a while after you turn it off?). You can actually turn off the prompt in the settings too.

What Rick said above ^^^^

That little black button looking thing is the In-Vehicle Temperature and Humidity Sensor. It contains both a thermistor for monitoring the cabin temperature and an element to monitor humidity to control the adjustment of the air inlet door (recirculating).

Interior temperature sensor (thermistor). Humidity sensor also in there behind the grille.

I think it's a camera. I took my eyes off the road to look at my phone and a message popped up on the dash to warn me to watch the road!

Not sure if you are joking or not, but it's not a camera. Lee and I above explained what it was. The camera you are referring to is the device that is just to the rear of the steering wheel in front of the IPC. It is looking at your eyes to make sure you are looking ahead while Blue Cruise is on.

Nope.

Turn on your smartphone camera while sitting in the car. Now point the camera at the various surfaces/objects in the car from the driver's seat.

Your smartphone camera will definitely reveal what is monitoring your eyeballs
