'Audio Off', VOL on/off not turning Audio on - [solved w 12v+ reset]

yesterday (11/12/24) my MME lost all audio.... setting show the 'sound' section grayed out (audio off), pressing the on/off button in middle of console knob lights console briefly, so it does detect the switch touch.
-no phone
-no read your text voice
-no navigation voice
-no radio

so I tried:

-soft sync reset w vol down+ right skip... no fix
-pulling/checking/replacing a few possible fuses (23,17,4)... did not fix.
-pulled 12v+ from battery for a couple minutes to hard reset everything, replaced, SOLVED.....

.... but the hard reset did reset radio to AM, and go to zero volume.

... no idea WHY the audio switch failed to do on/off, since I have not had an OTA update in over a year. I do not do FDRS, so nothing has changed software wise in my vehicle for a long time.

Mine has auto off’d after when starting the car a few times. It comes back on so far but it’s been off more often than on lately. Started about last month and I’m FDRS’d up to July ‘24 as well. No OTA’s in flight either.
I blame my kids Billy Eilish playlist.

Maybe your DSP module needs to be reset. I'd try restarting SYNC and if that doesn't help, then remove the fuse for the audio system for awhile (or remove the 12V cable) to force it to reset.

I note that there was an AndroidAuto update 11/1/2024... could this have done it?
my last phone unpdate was oct 26, so thats not it

Whats the fix procedure?
disconnect/reconnect phone?
reset sync?

Generally I just listen to the voices in my head. We usually sing “Rain Drops Keep Falling On My Head” or Chaka Khan

Hold the Volume Down and the Skip Right buttons on the steering wheel for about 10 seconds.

Correct. Be sure to realize, @dtbaker61, that this reset procedure may also reduce your audio volume to zero.

So after it is back up and running, open the FM Radio app and you may need to raise the volume.

Thank you for the reminder, I have never had to reset sync before. Regardless, it did not help the situation. Pressing the volume on off for audio lights up but does not turn on audio.

I also tried disconnecting the phone, and re- pairing, that did not help either. Very confusing because I have auto updates off, so nothing has changed on the car side for a long time

Nope, this is not it. Radio screen still shows audio off, and incoming phone calls do not go to speaker. :-(

I didn't think it'd work... But it was easy to try. I also said you may need to reset the DSP by removing its power (via fuse or LVB). I know that sucks, but I'm not sure what else for you to try.

That would be my suggestion as well. If that doesn’t work, it may be dealer time.

I had this issue before and to make sure you have pushed the inside of the radio volume knob. Not the knob itself (which will turn it off/on) but the little circle inside that. If that doesn't work then I had to disconnect the 12v negative for 10 minutes and then everything worked again.

are we talking the fusebox by the passengers feet, or the one buried under the Frunk tub ?

do you happen to know what the fuse number for DSP is ?

It is just the weirdest thing that ONLY the 'sound' system is affected. In the settings menu, the 'sound' selection on the left is actually grayed out!

I don't know the number or location. Fuse locations and numbers are specified in the owner's manual:
