As a ponycar guy, I was against calling it a "Mustang" from the start. It has grown on me so that I am not against it any more. The name is still too long for me so I just call it a "Mach-E GT-Performance Edition" (which is already too long). ??

I've been a Mustang man for over 50 years, and I'm sorry, a Mustang cannot have four doors. Why not just have called it a Mach-e and leave the whole Mustang part out of it?

And since it's Thanksgiving, I'm thankful they did not call it the Edsel, Fairlane, Torino, Tempo, Fairmont, Probe, or Contour. Need I go on?

I really like my new Mach E. I haven’t found much not to like. But I admit that the “Mustang” monicker embarrasses me a bit.
One of my buddies asked me what I thought they should have called it? Before the question I had not given that any thought. I spent an evening contemplating and I have my answer. What is yours?
The MME is the first Ford I have owned but I grew up with Fords, learned to drive in a ‘58 Country Sedan, 292 V8 3 on the tree with overdrive. I remember when the Mustang was introduced and what a departure it was after the failure of Edsel.
and it occurred to me that the era held the answer to what the Mach E should have been named……(Drumroll)…..The Galaxy! A long dormant name from Ford’s past that has the connotation of being about something extra terrestrial and beyond our reach.
Missed opportunity if you ask me.
I like the name and I think it was wise for Ford to choose it. It's like Ford saying, "Here is a grownup Mustang".

Anybody remember the Mustang II, or any of the crapbox Fox-body mustangs of the 80s aside from the SVO, later GTs, and Cobra? Those were embarrassments to the Mustang name.
yep I've pointed that out on a quite frequent basis over the past three plus years to the "it's not a mustang" crowd.

It is the redesign of the Focus electric,, made larger to accommodate the frunk and bigger battery for range, they should’ve left it the Focus.
"redesign of the focus electric" is doing some heavy lifting here!! ?

I’m fine with it being called a Mustang. It can certainly smoke most (any?) ice Mustang I see on the road.

I don’t have any nostalgia for the old Mustang brand, but judging from the other responses it seems like the average poster here is 30+ years my senior.

Yeah I kind of dated myself there, but I have not lost ANY of my Need for Speed

I'm not sure what they should have called it, but definitely "Mustang" was a cynical choice in order to cash in on the name recognition. IMO, this electric crossover SUV has nothing to do with the legacy of the Mustang moniker. It was born, heart and soul, in 2021 as its own entity. Just wish they would have named it something original. Oh well, c'est la vie.
Bill Ford seem to think it deserved the name, so they went with his decision.

Yeah, no. That's not what happened.

And yet those Mustangs are fully embraced by the various enthusiast organizations all across the US, just like the Mach-E is now. There was a time when the Mustang II had come out and Mustang owners were clamoring to have the Mustang II banned from club events. Cooler heads at the national level (Mustang Club of America) ignored them and allowed the Mustang II to be allowed. The Mustang II even has it's own place in the Museum and they are sought-after collectibles. MCoA embraced the Mach-E when it came out.

It's not too late. Drop Mustang, just call it the Mach-e. Lots of people refer to it as the Ford Mach-e. Bottom line, my last name isn't Ford, so Ford can call it anything they want. I''m good with Ford's decision.
