Thanks, @rugedraw. Amazing to see this kind of helpfulness and activity in this forum. It was actually a bit of a challenge to get the updates done as many have experienced already.

Is there info on what updates are behind this GWM update? I guess my car is way behind on things if this update didn't bring the UI changes, which is wild to me for a 2023 car.... I'm itching to start doing this myself but it's still a bridge to far for me, both investment and warranty wise.

@Mike G would you be able to look up my vin? My ā€˜21 MME First Edition has been at dealer since Oct 30 for front camera fault then they discovered an issue with a cable associated with sync module and internal short in infotainments screen.
VIN 3FMTK3SU1MMA10463
They haven't done anything lately that I can see. They did close out that RO from the 30th of October. But there's nothing in the system about the issue with the APIM.

You'd better ask them what the plan is.

Here's the list of available software for your VIN in any event:

Hi There,

Wondering if someone can look up my VIN. I haven't received a software update since May.
3FMTK4SX9NMA02015

Thanks!
Tom
Last successful OTA was the gateway (GWM) ECG-24.2.5.6.1 on the 20th of September according to the system.

You do have more updates available including another gateway, which when updated would 'unlock' and APIM and then a TCU update. Likely this is what you've been looking for. There are no OTAs in your queue right now.

Your last OTA was successful. It was the ECG-24.2.5.6.3 for the GWM (gateway module) on the 4th of December.

The last time a technician updated your car was on the 25th of November. This is the session log from that day:

Here's the list of available software in FDRS for your VIN as of today:

Thank you so so much @Mike G for your help, its highly appreciated and valued. Big cudos to you. Just 2 quick follow-up questions:

1) Im taking my car to the official dealership this friday for some maintenance. If asked, is the technician able to update these modules? On a technical level, I mean, are there any obstacles for him to perform these updates then?

2) How come my vehicle is listed as a '2021'? Its supposed to be a MY 22.25. I have seen this on other occasions before. Then I was being told its just a naming/registration error. Could this be the case?

Kind regards
R

I don't know why your car would be listed as a '21 model. It's listed in the system as a 2022 model with "BUILD DATE: 28-July-2022" in the system. And a warranty start date of 27-October-2022.

The technician can update every single one of those modules if they wanted to. Very easy. The software I took the screenshots from is the same software they use to do the updates.

Not necessarily. It could (should) be reissued as an OTA later. If you want to try the ā€œI got a failed OTA, can you see if there’s anything wrong with my carā€ the next time you go to the dealership, that might work.
Thanks so much. Really appreciate your help.

Once that GWM is done, it will release another APIM or TCU update and when that one is done, it will release the next one in the sequence until a) there are no more updates available for your VIN or b) you reach the latest available Sync version which would be the equivalent to the one people get with the 10.1.0 OTA. Based on everything the dealer did for you, I don't think the expense for FDRS is warranted unless you REALLY want whatever is offered in the latest APIM update, and that is assuming you will be able to update all the way to it. It is possible that once you get to Sync 23291, you will not be able to update any further if no more updates have been released for your car. The only way to know for sure is to do update until no more are there.

Thank you so much @Mike G ! I really appreciate it! Good to see that updates are still happening in the background even though I don't see them.

@Mike G Thanks you so much for checking and pulling this detail for me. I’m perplexed as to what is going on and feel like I getting a bit of the run around by SA.

Is it reasonable to expect the service team to perform these updates at no charge or have others experienced differently?

Update: SA is telling me they would not be able to update anything under warranty without an actual concern. Ford monitors all communication with vehicles and logs that info.

Hi Mike

Which modules should I ask dealer to update to finish this "not installed" update?

The truth is, they can only bill Ford for labor hours for updates when they are part of a recall or when they address a vehicle specific problem. Nobody likes to work for free, so they won't do updates just because updates are pending.

That update is for the IPMA/PSCM modules.

I get compensation, yet I’m still struggling a bit to understand why if there is an update available, the reasoning not to install it as part of Ford service. How else can I go about getting the updates completed?

The reality for me is that each time my car has gone in for service, each service visit is 4 to 6 weeks, regardless of the dealer (I’ve tried the three major ones in my area). In the nearly 4 years I’ve had the car, 4-5 months of the time it has been in service. I truly enjoy the car but the overall service experience is horrendous at best.

The whole updates not getting done at the dealer is not a Ford thing...... that's how it is across all brands.

The only way to do them is to invest in the tools needed to do them yourself, which most people choose not to do. The OTA process is not predictable or reliable. Some have gotten lucky and the dealer does it for them, but must get lied to about when they can't do the updates or get told there is nothing to update.
