I've been considering doing a proactive replacement 12V battery replacement in my MME. I stumbled across this 12V replacement LiFePo battery, but I can't order it because it doesn't ship to Canada (can't even see what the price is). Has anyone tried something like this?

With some of the horror stories around not being able to get into the car with a low LVB, having a separate app that can tells you about the status and health of that battery seems like a really good idea (should be unnecessary, but Ford being Ford...we'll see it in the dash display soon™). I also like the idea of it having its own simple heating system since Canada has real winters, and those are hard on all batteries.

There are a number of bluetooth enabled 12v battery monitors you could go with if you just wanted to keep tabs on the health of your AGM Battery.

Wouldn't those have a constant draw on the battery, defeating the whole point of using one because you were worried about a low battery?

Do not buy the Ohmmu lithium battery. It’s overpriced junk ($500) and is not comparable with Ford’s BMS which is calibrated for an AGM only. You are much better off to buy a new OEM battery. You can replace the Ford AGM three times for the price of one Ohmmu.

A $30 Bluetooth battery monitor would be a much better idea, but keep in mind that it will not always give advance warning of faults. And may add a small additional battery draw.

Besides the Ford battery, there are a couple other AGM batteries from other sources that are compatible. But it must be a 35 Ah AGM. Please see my 12V FAQ for details on those.

A combination of proactive 12V replacement every 3-4 years and knowing how to deal with a failure (know how to jump the Mach-E) is the best strategy.

The monitor pairs with a phone via bluetooth and doesn’t connect unless the phone is within 30 feet so it’s not constantly using energy.

I have 2021 Mach e. I was worried about the 12v battery as well. To access the battery is a small project if you ever need to jump it. So what I did was get a 12v splitter that plugs into the outlet in the console which also displays that battery voltage. The splitter was needed also as I have plugged in a seat heater as well as dash cam . Really both the camera and heated seats should have came with the car for what I paid for it, it
is California 1 edition. I have had the splitter / display adapter for quite some time the battery voltage is good so far 3 plus years now.

The jump points are easily accessible by popping off one cover. No tools required. It’s not a “project” by any stretch.

In addition, there are a couple of threads about drilling access holes for the jump points so you never have to remove those covers. It’s an easy and quick “mod.”

Only one cover to get to the jump points.
Sort of. I need to remove the back frunk cover first before I could remove the side cover that ordinarily hides the jump points on the drivers side. It’s a moot point for me anyway as the jump points have access holes drilled over them now covered by two caps.

@PLR, here are a couple of posts about drilling access holes:

This is the best way and the result looks like it came from the factory. I had it done on my 22 Mach-E and will do it again on the 24 in the summer. I should have swapped the panel from the old car at the dealer to save time.

One I have says 1.5 mA…which would require a very long time to drain your 35A battery.

But you also get constant charts like:

Along with SOC, so you should have a much better idea of when the battery is not acting normal than the current Ford provided option, of doing nothing.

Now that I think about, I think you’re correct, the back cover should be removed first.
