My issue with my dealer and to a lesser degree Ford because they rely on the dealer so much, is that my dealer doesn't treat me like a potential sale, they treat me like they've already made the sale. They know I want this car and will pay MSRP for it, they don't work to keep my business. It's kind of like any communication from them should feel like a bonus. Ford should remove them from the communication process or at least give individual buyers access to the same information. In our case the dealer has the most up to date visibility (information) and not the customer. We have some tools but they are not realtime and basically just give timeframes. Ask your dealer to print (scan) for you the "Vehicle Visibility" screen. I have posted it here many times, it has the latest info. Today I asked my dealer to print another one for me give the updates. It takes about half a day for them to send it to me. Quick enough for me, again bug them, you are the buyer.
I realize the dealership is running a business and their time can be better used on customers who aren't already committed to buying a car. So why should they have to be bogged down giving me updates on a car that should be on their lot for less than a day. Ford dealers have more profitable uses of their time, but Ford doesn't seem to care. The end result is that people end up getting mad because Ford talks about transparency and communication, but I get all of my information from dedicated Ford employees who are awesome enough to give their time and whatever information they can to us. It's not their job, I don't think, to keep the public informed about the release of this car.
