Kind of did it again last night no phones moving or close this time either. Noted the tails this time as it was dark. Unlike the other times this time they came on stayed on a bit and then shut down itself ?‍♂ . With how it treats 12V's I can do without the headlights coming on randomly. Drew power last night no pump no charging so maybe recharging the 12V? Good to see it is getting smart enough to at least work like a 12V charger (when plugged to L2 ?‍♂)

Can it flash or turn on the headlights if trying to update? I do not use (turn) the knob ever. On auto and that has been it. Weird that all of a sudden after 4 years and no use it starts to go?

Updates lately
1/29/2025 - 24-PU0102-SVD-FX2
1/22/2025 - power up 6.8
12/11/2024 - 24-PU0121-FTDI-FX
Have you tried turning off welcome lighting, just in case that's what's doing this? When I had it turned on for my truck, I could be walking across the yard 40-50 feet from my truck and the lights would come on. That's a pretty strong Bluetooth signal. I turned off welcome lighting on both the car and the truck and haven't had an issue since.

My car took 2 years before it started showing the headlight switch problem. Replacing the switch solved it.

Hey Mike, DeusEx, are you guys able to see if I have anything I should be getting? Am languishing on 3.5.3.4, but there have been a ton released since then. 2022 car.

My 2021 only occasionally flipped on its headlights. probably because after the first time it did it I started turning the headlight switch off once or twice a week. This seemed to reset the switch so that it didn’t overflow often. I replaced the switch and all was fine. The replacement switch now lives in my 2024 since I was too lazy to remove the liftgate switch from the assembly. My 2024‘s original switch just sits in my garage forlornly. ?‍♂?

Anyhow, I guess this is a long-winded way of saying that switching the headlights off every once in a while is a good work-around and replacing the switch is a solution. ??

Could someone with PTS access maybe check my module SW status? Today I received IPMA-DC-24.204.8.27. But instead of the first (initial) BC features I just received "updates in the background". What a pity, I really hoped for something more.
Can it be that I only got an IPMA config update, as even all SW versions seem to be untouched?

Many thanks in advance!!

I guess you could dangle the possibility of returning your vehicle to the dealer as a way of greasing the wheels.

There isn't any incentive for Ford dealers to update the cars manually. New and used cars unfortunately sit on the lot turned off and so may miss update windows which causes the cars to be a bit out of date. Having the car turned off and not charging the 12v for long periods of time also doesn't help since updates required a specific 12v charge level before beginning. Once the car is sold and running it also all depends on when Ford decides to send you OTAs. You can't manually request it from the car. It's a headache if you want to wait for OTAs.

I'm the sure the more seasoned members here might be able to find other ways you can get upgrades performed by the dealer but it really is a hassle.

From my personal experience, even with a TSB that applied to my car, my dealer didn't do anything for multiple days. The car just sat there with no one looking at it even though it was promised it would be looked at. I eventually needed the car before they did anything, they had it for 4 days, and later on performed all the updates. I only needed 2 days to fully update my car, which was less time than it sat at the dealer.
Thanks for the info. Is it generally safe to perform these updates on your own or can you possibly damage your vehicle.

You run the risk you’re gonna brick a module (usually it’s one or a small few at a time), however there’s tons of us that have done it successfully.

However it’s the same updates Ford are allowing the dealerships to do. You can buy the exact kit.

The possibility of bricking something is low, but definitely not zero. However, I don't recall anyone bricking their modules using the recommended equipment from that thread and only one person "messed up" their car with non-recommended hardware. I put "messed up" in quotes because there weren't any other updates so I don't know what was done to fix the car.

Wish me luck.

After a very lengthy conversation with the Senior Sales Manager for the dealership group and an independent service tech. They've committed to ensuring the vehicle comes back fully updated and not just a round of updates.
Easy litmus test is turn it on an compare the screen or sync version to one on the lot.
Sales Manager said he would have a tech send a screenshot of fdrs before handing it over. He's concerned they had it two weeks and did a days work after pulling the previous work order.
I'll have someone here check it before I take possession. Hopefully someday I'll have a Mach E that has at least 2024 software.

Be careful using the Topdon. There are some horror stories in the other thread.

The FDRS DIY thread has some info on the Tipton having borked modules in F-150s. Be careful. ??
