Texas has an 85MPH speed limit road, but BlueCruise maxes out at 80. Should Ford increase it or leave it at 80? BTW, SuperCruise does has a 85MPH limit.

Only if it can safely read the lines, react etc at those speeds.

I’m not entirely convinced it could.

Regular cruise and lane keep still works above those speeds though right? Just not the hands free?

Yes, but if GM can handle it why can’t Ford?

It's a data issue. They need enough data at those speeds to train and validate the model. I'm not sure how chevy got it's values to train and validate supercruise, but I can see it being something Ford adjusts to as they gather more data from users who travel at speeds that fast.

I ditched BlueCruise for the Comma3X, which starts complaining at 92mph, so even in TX you can get +7 before it kicks out.

Different hardware, different software. Different mapping.

But honestly based on how slow and buggy the software is in our cars, I wouldn’t trust hands free at those speeds anyways. ?ā€ā™‚

No.

People don't maintain their vehicles, including tires, for that kind of speed.

85? I drove that area coming from New Mexico once. I couldn’t trust myself on those twisty mountain roads at 85!

I dunno… this just feels like risk tolerance based on training data. In other words, it could be a technical limitation - need more people buying Blue Cruse for more training data - it could be the Lawyers talking risk tolerance or it could be a combination of both.

FWIW, this is a space where I would like a company to be more conservative. I’d Ford isn’t comfortable with that last 5 MPH, ok. The rest is academic.

speaking of academic… it’s convenient that the east west drive across Texas is about 800 miles. Driving constantly at 80 mph, it’s a 10 hour drive. At 85 mph, it’s 9 and a half hours. Notice that the idealized SAT math problem allows you to drive at 85 mph through Houston (for example), which is unrealistic. But even then, the purchase decision between Super Cruise and Blue Cruise is 30 minutes over 10 hours.

There are lots of reasons to choose one over the other, but the top end speed limit is not a factor that appeals to me.

c125feet every second @ 85mph, that’s a looooooonnnnnnnnng way before you realise there’s a problem and need to take back control?

About 8’ longer than at 80mph. Doesn’t seem like much of a difference to worry about if you’re gonna use BC. I wish it worked past 80 - for my once in a lifetime, epic west coast road trip. Around th east coast 80 is adequate.
