The NHTSA informed me that my 2022 Mach E is may be part of this recall, but Ford's systems don't show it (yet). (Spoiler: It isn't)

EDIT: Note this is not the "Powertrain control module and secondary on-board diagnostic control module c software update" recall. That one is (confusingly) 23S65, this one is 23S56.

Here's what it says on the NHTSA website:

High Voltage Battery Contactor May Overheat
An overheated high voltage battery contactor can result in a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V441000
Manufacturer Ford Motor Company
Components ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Number of Units Affected 239
Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022 Mustang Mach E vehicles equipped with an extended range battery. The high voltage battery main contactors may overheat.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the high voltage battery junction box, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 14, 2025. Owners may contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S56. This recall is an expansion of previous NHTSA recall number 23V687.
My HVBJB was replaced a couple years ago (before the original 23S56 recall), so I don't know if my MME is actually part of the recall or not. I guess I'll know sometime in the next couple weeks... It is interesting through that NHTSA says there are only 239 units affected, so this appears to be highly targeted. It might just be that this is a paper tiger: Ford just needs to update their paperwork; or it could be that Joy will be getting a new HVBJB, again. I'm really not sure what to think.

Thanks to the always helpful @Mach-Lee, I now know that "it’s because a clerical error was made with the production cutoff date in the original recall. The actual date they switched to the new part was three days later, so the 239 vehicles produced during those three days are the affected population."

So this recall only effects those Mach E Extended Range non-GT trims built between May 25 and May 27, 2022.

If you received the notice from the NHTSA, use their lookup tool to see if your VIN is included.

As I recall, some HVBJBs were replaced with identical HVBJBs and not the new and improved HVBJB because there was no new and improved. If that was the case with your car, it needs to be done again unfortunately.

Yeah, it might be that... We'll see. Not a big deal either way. I'll not be doing much driving for awhile.

IIRC, your 2022 got the same second generation part in the warranty repair that my 2021 got. Not sure why your car is being targeted for this recall. ?‍♂?

Who knew thumbs were so important? ;)
You know that thumbs are overrated. ??

We received this same notice last night.
We had our HVBJB replaced late 2024 under recall—no troubles with it before the recall work. In fact, the biggest issue was the local dealer is incompetent and we had to bring it do another dealer 90 minutes away. But if they want to give us a new HVBJB, /shrug I suppose.

Do you recall, offhand, when the change from the OEM HVBJB to the second gen was?

Late May of 2022 was when the Second generation HVBJB was introduced. Late November of 2023 was when the third generation was introduced. ??

If you read the chronology in the part 573 report, it’s because a clerical error was made with the production cutoff date in the original recall. The actual date they switched to the new part was three days later, so the 239 vehicles produced during those three days are the affected population.

Interesting. Thanks. Since my car was built in February of 2022, it was in the original recall population.

I should have clicked on this link before I posted this thread. Based on this it looks like my car isn't part of the expanded population. I'll update my OG post accordingly.

I suspect I'll be getting that letter shortly- this afternoon I got SSN and SVS messages from my app, the alarmed car and wrench icons, and grey bar jail-SuperMax. Made it home (70 clenchy miles with my daughter...)

OBD shows PO68A -Engine control relay- shut-off early, PO44(68) for 7EC and BECM, Hybrid positive battery contactor - circuit stuck closed. I'm not fluent in TechSpeak, but I believe that translates roughly to "dangit."

My local service center doesn't have an opening to even look at the car until the 24th (!!), the 30th if I want a loaner. After the last one my excellent BEV CS agent gave me a free extended warranty, so I'm going to go back to her and see if she can juice the dealer a little.

Part of the reason I was willing to take a gamble of a 1st(ish) gen EV was Ford's outstanding service department. I was really hoping not to use it quite this much...

I hope this one gets repaired quickly and smoothly, Alex!
