Anyone know if the $250 EV penalty made it into the final version of the BB bill?

How do you figure 3x?

I figure roughly $200/yr for state+federal gas taxes in TX for the average ICE vehicle. Avg MPG is ~26 in the US, 13,500 avg miles driven. That's 519 gallons/yr x $0.384 (federal + TX state gas taxes) = $199.

Of course, those are averages, which is what they're stuck with when using an annual registration fee. Some people drive more miles and come out ahead, some less and behind. Same for avg MPG.
While I agree with your math, the $250 would have been for federal only and TX would also try to charge something. If the TX rate is $0.20 per gallon, they would want to charge $104 on 519 gallons. Therefore, the $250 federal EV charge would be $100 too much. I think this never made it in the final tax bill.

Sure, if the feds started collecting an EV fee, states that are collecting the equivalent of missing fed gas taxes should adjust theirs accordingly.

But it didn't happen so all moot. The $250 idea died on the drawing table (for good reason, since half of that probably would have gotten eaten up in added administrative cost).

It is surprising that it did not occur to anyone for the Feds to contract with the states to collect the EV fees for them. In most states it would just require a little reprogramming of the computers printing out our annual license plate bills. It would also provide an enforcement mechanism. You refuse to pay your bill then you do not get your license plate renewed.
The Feds are still finalizing tax returns from 2023. Is it really a surprise?

Legislation can change the "good reasons".
True but red states have been especially opinionated about not allowing the Feds to impose financial burdens on the states. Since they're in charge, they are less likely to want to change that.

Funny you say that I heard it was the blue states who don’t wanna cooperate with the feds. ?

Probably the least of American's concerns with this bill passage.
Right. JHC that thing. Aside from potentially closing a hospital near me, I'm, thankfully, insulted from a lot of the horrible things in the bill. At least I think. The BBB will be the mother of intended and unintended consequences.

In other news, had a truly blissful night drive on newly paved back roads last night. Man I love this car.

I asked a PA representative that was on the committee for the new $250 ev tax , why don’t you just use the yearly inspection mileage and charge a fee according to that? He said that wouldn’t be fare to people that had high mileage !

Really? It wouldn't be fair for people to pay their fair share?
I mean, to pay their fair fare? What an imbecile this representative is.

The reality is that a significant number of states pull more money from the federal government than they send. Last I read it was around 30 that get more than they send. Since Wyoming was mentioned, they are in the top 10 of the most dependent list.

Lots of people say "let the states handle everything, without realizing that many states lack the population to pay for it (and are red states), and wouldn't invest in their infrastructure without federal funds.

That rolls into everything, i.e. education, roads, you name it. So, if we left say Alaska to their own devices, you'd have a disaster in a very short period of time.
Funny thing is, most of those states that get more than they pay are the ones complaining about all of the federal handouts.

Fares are rarely fair because the definition of “fair” is a sliding scale based on who is defining the word.

What is the most fair?
Flat fee for everyone
Sliding scale based on usage
Sliding scale based on income

You will get VERY different answers based on who you ask. And they’re all debatable.

Yup.

A huge percentage of our population is totally clueless about so many things. "Get rid of rebates". Now go list all the industries, businesses, people that get government funding. Government pays famers to grow corn to create ethanol. Oops, now we don't have enough corn for ethanol. Farmers paid to not grow crops. Oil and gas trillion dollar companies given subsidies. "Drill baby drill" but they won't drill unless someone props up the price per barrel...

Of course lobbyists are paid by industries and companies to create more payouts. It's worth it to pay a firm $3 million to get $50 million in payouts. Money goes into Senators and Congressmen's pockets (and Presidents).

Let's get rid of FEMA. Oops, we need it for Texas, New Mexico, ....

It's really appalling and disgusting.
