It's just a miss on Fords part and I think they underestimated the reaction. I know I did. I read all about it and saw many reviews that mentioned it but shrugged it off at the time. However, after owning it for the past 2 months it's a larger reality than even I counted on and I do not see it ending. So for me, I don't think I will keep the car due to having to continually hear it over and over and over again.
With all honesty, I would think about changing the place where you live. In 4 months of ownership I didn't hear one negative reaction from anybody. Questions, surprised looks, a pause to realize it's a Mustang, but hate? Are you serious? Run from that place, the sooner the better - I think Ford's move to name this car a Mustang was brilliant - it attracted me for sure and made me a proud owner of this great car.

I'm also in Raleigh with a Rt 1 on order. PM me if you decide to sell any time soon. Best comp is probably the Ioniq 5, but you'll have to go to Maryland to get that - when it arrives. Much shorter trip than Alabama though, lol!

Trust me, I don't pay much mind to other people's un solicited opinions but man, it wears on you when it's as constant as it's been lately.
...
So for me, I don't think I will keep the car due to having to continually hear it over and over and over again.
I understand the exhaustion you're feeling. I don't have the car yet, but I live in a place where I do expect this kind of reaction once I have it. And I expect something similar from the F150 owners who will feel it's their right to berate me, a perfect stranger, for buying an electric F150 when that becomes available. I experience something similar when I ride my V-twin non-Harley motorcycle.

It's part of the larger trend where people seemingly cannot let others enjoy their own thing without taking it as an affront to their personal tastes. I would never own a Porsche or a Corvette (for example), but I can geek out with someone who does not because I want the car but because I know how to empathize with someone else and understand their love and excitement for something, even if I don't share that particular love and excitement.

I actually like that Ford is doing this with their two biggest brands: Mustang and F150 EVs are pushing everyone out of their comfort zone and demanding people face the reality that the future of propulsion is electric. But I agree with you that the response is mostly being aimed at the owners of the cars, and that's unfortunate.

I hope that you find a way to decide to keep the car that you say your wife loves and that you find few faults with. It's not the car, it's the people. But if it's too much energy to put up with them and they take away your enjoyment of the vehicle, know that several things are true: 1) They'll forget about it when their internal rage turns toward the next thing they hate about the future; 2) You'll be welcomed back into the stable when you get your 2025 Mustang EV; 3) The Mustang will continue to evolve and change and its muscle car nature will only rarely be compromised, and the EV aspect is not a compromise on its muscle car nature.

As an ICE mustang lover (on my 4th Mustang and 2nd Shelby right now), let me apologize for my brethren who obviously have no better way to feel good about themselves than putting others down. I am sorry they have diminished your enjoyment of your car.
My last trip was to Raleigh NC to the NC State-Clemson pregame in the parking lot outside the stadium, where about 15 other EVs, including my MME, participated in the EV show. All I got were compliments and admiration from others all day long. Thousands of Wolfpack fans passed by as the day wore on. A couple weeks before, I entered my MME into the Show at Mustang week in Myrtle Beach, SC, where I estimate some 2500 other ICE Mustangs gathered. For two solid days, I answered lots of questions showing my car. The MME got 99% positive compliments. Seems to me the only negative comments I see are on social media by key board warriors with funny sounding names.

My experience being in North Carolina: All positive comments and compliments in the real world.

120 HP, but it's a "real" mustang!

Ford Mustang (third generation) - Wikipedia

I wonder what the 0 to 60 was let alone the quarter mile. And, I'll bet that pony handled real well on those skinny shitty tires too. Got to love the hubcaps. But, a "real" mustang. 2 barrel carb by the way. Good times!
According to:

1979 Ford Mustang 2-door 2.3L (man. 4) detailed performance review, speed vs rpm and accelerations chart

Complete performance review and accelerations chart for Ford Mustang 2-door 2.3L (man. 4) in 1979, the model with 2-door notchback coupe body and Line-4 2301 cm3 / 140.4 cui, 65.5 kW / 89 PS / 88 hp (SAE net) engine offered since October 1978 for North America U.S.. According to ProfessCars™ estimation this Ford is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 12.5 sec, from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.4 sec, from 0 to 160 km/h (100 mph) in 138.9 sec and the quarter mile drag time is 18.8 sec.

It's not just where I live. I have traveled thousands of miles in this car and get it everywhere. It's not just where I live, It's the Mustang community that is making this a mess for me.

It's not just one place, read the post, I have traveled in multiple states and my overall expirence has been more negative than positive. It's not that I can't take people not agreeing with the whole EV thing.. it's that they just hate it and me as the owner just for the name only.

Ford needs to wake up and smell the mistake they made and how it has impacted the people who bought into this. They either need to get the acceptance of the community or figure out a better way to market the car.

Fan boy attitude aside, the name was not brilliant, but was a mistake and one that some of us are paying for.

I am sorry but what you wrote is your personal opinion only. And it is 100% opposite from my experience. And once again - Ford didn't make any mistakes with the name of the car - the decision was brilliant. If it was not for the name, I would probably never bought this car. If it's not enough for you, I am sorry. I am sorry that your life became so hard because of MME. But the solution is extremely easy - the prices for the, especially lightly used cars are very good now - stop whining, sell the car and get out of your miserable existence. Seriously, you are hilarious...

I find nothing hilarious about my personal experience. While you state that this is my experience and mine alone and discredit it as hilarious you fail to see the true impact of the simple name of the car has had one me as the owner who paid real, hard earned money to sit behind the wheel of their creation.

I am here sharing my experiences and my opinions. It may not match yours but it is mine and mine alone. If you cannot see past that then that is on you. Ford needs to hear peoples real world experiences. I am happy that you have had the polar opposite. For me, as an avid and long term EV guy this has not been the case. It does not matter if yours is the same or that you agree. For me, it takes away and diminishes the experience and my wife and friends who have shared in some of these long trips agree that its only the name of the car that attracts the negative. Maybe you should go out and travel more and broaden your viewpoint. If I just stayed in the greater Raleigh area my ratio of positive/negative would be different. However, I have taken this car much further than my old one would allow and have a wide range of interactions and experiences.

I am only comparing the 2+ years of my previous car to this one and so far it has not been as positive. The name is the main focus and for me its a data point. Ford needs to think about this and reflect on their choices. Look at your solution. You told me to go and sell the car and move on. Do you think that Ford wants people to have to make such a choice after 2 months of ownership. I bet not. Yet, you are even recommend that. Good thing you do not work for or run that company.

I cannot state how much I love this car. It is far better than my previous car at everything. yet, people need to hear everything, even the negative in order to make an informed decision.. If this bothers you or you cant get past a little negative criticism then that's on you. I bet that Ford values it more and will not just tell me to sell the car and that I am hilarious.

My 1996 Mustang, 3.8L, was according to the best internets I could find, 9.9 seconds 0 to 60. I don't remember feeling slow but it would have been the 3rd slowest car Motor Trend tested in 2020. The GT was mid 6's, no idea about the Cobra.

I owned the Mercury version - Capri RS Turbo. Same engine, but turbocharged.
0-60 was just over 10 seconds. I was to say it was about 120 HP.

People not necessarily need to hear anything you want them to hear. If they want to hear, they will hear. Your opinion or your criticism doesn't bother me at all, not even a bit. I am quite opposite to what you are trying to achieve with your cry - I, just like you, love a car, I think it's an awesome car and that's why I do not care about other people's opinion of the name or whatever, especially people who do not own the car. If you think other people are right and not you, then al the power to you, but if you think so, you are definitely driving a wrong car for you :). Once again - just like you said, only opposite, Ford needs to hear from people who own the car - it's an awesome car and the naming it as a Mustang was a brilliant idea, it looks and runs absolutely terrific imho, give us more of that and make it better, of course. If this position/opinion bothers you, that's on you man.

And I still do not understand - if the car's name is so important to you and it bothers you, your wife and your friends so much, sell it, seriously, don't make your life on your extended trips so miserable. And do not worry about Ford reaction after you sell it after only owning for 2 months - the car you will sell will be picked up by another person who will be much happier than you driving it :). I hope you understand you are currently driving a car, named Mustang - there is no way back. If you believe they rename it just to make some jerks who do not drive that car, happy, you are in for a big surprise. And the bunch of 2022 Mustang EVs is coming - doesn't make matter you like it or not.

Really sorry you have had such an awful experience with the Mach E name. I probably wouldn't have bought this car without the name and the looks. I haven't done a lot of traveling in my car, so I can't speak to how other areas would react to this car's name. I would think of all the places you have been that there would be other Mach E's in that area experiencing the same hate for the name but I haven't seen that on this forum, some hate for sure but nothing like what you have spoken about. I think they made the right choice on the name and although I haven't had the hate you have had in regards to the name. There is no way I would sell my car based off of the opinions of alot of people I don't even know. Wish you better luck with your next purchase.
