12V battery app notification - Questions

Hey yall, I am at the dealership right now for the 12 volt battery notification i got from the app. It failed there test and needs to be replaced.

I went to Tasca Ford in NY for it, and the price for the entire service is about 1k. What exactly is the Battery Terminal Service? I asked the guy and said its recommended since replacing the 12V, but didnt go into anymore details.

Do these prices seem correct to you for replacing? Just generally curious.
- 12v : $495.08
- Battery Terminal Service - Perform BG Battery Service: $174.75
- Also charged $259 for diagnostic — which is the first time im ever hearing about this for EVs or in general while coming here.

Bare with me as this is the first time ever having to deal with any of this.

That seems way too much to replace a battery. Watching this thread to see what others have to say.

Maybe it's a regional difference, but the reports I've seen from Phoenix area posters for 12V replacements at dealers were in the $230 - $300 range, total.

Total rip off.

If you’re handy at all just buy the battery from them and do it yourself. The battery should be like $150. You can search on here on how to reset the 12V BMS after it’s replaced.

$495 for a battery that you can buy on ford.com for around $130 and have delivered to any dealer. Wow, total rip off! $259 diagnostic that you can get for free at any auto parts store?? $174 for the 30 minutes to swap out battery and reset the LVB state not terrible I guess.

Battery test should be free.

You don't need new terminals. Battery is $130 as noted. Installation is an hour or less labor rate, $250 - $300 max.

You're getting hosed.

Please go ahead and get a new battery. They cost ~$130 and you don't want to be stranded... but the price the dealer quoted is way too high from my experience.

I assume it's replacing the ends of the battery cables?

You can replace the battery in under 30 minutes yourself.

Maybe the extra $365 is to replace all those plastic clips that fly everywhere when the mechanic pops off the plastic cover panels. ?

So Ford sends you a notification of the actual problem and yet they still want to charge you $259 for diag? Sounds like you'd be paying the technician to sit around and drink some coffee. Huge rip off, you already know what they're going to find, "replace the battery", its right there in the quote!

thank you! The total bill was less than $430 after i talked to the guy about the price.

issue now - they did the battery change, and when i drove off, not even 2mins later i got all types of warnings and errors popping up - that wasnt an issue before me going to the dealer.

had the precollison error pop up - 1 pedal drive error - back camera error and more.

they claim they did not see any of that before giving me the car (which i think is bullshit) - but now they saying they need to do some updates and stuff for things to get back to normal ?

as for the 1 pedal and back up camera errors he said those are modules that arent covered by extended warranty, and would cost me out of pocket to deal with, if thats what I want.

i will know more by Wednesday when he calls me with all the details.

any advice on what they fucked up on or to do?

hmm the car will throw those kinds of errors when the 12v battery is low. It's conjecture but I'd wonder if they put in a "new" but discharged battery. Ask to see the date code on the battery they put in and ask to see what the car says the 12v battery state of charge is. Don't accept BS, they know how to answer those questions. The battery should be new within the last few months. the 12V State of Charge needs to be something higher than 50%... I'm betting it is low.
